I am only a junior so i know i have time to improve. What do you think my chances are? what would you reccomend i improve?

That’s a pretty impressive resume, especially for a junior. I’d say just keep up the grades and the ec’s. Possibly pull up the ACT (esp. math), run for president/some officer position of a club or honor society to really solidify the whole leadership thing.

That being said:
Ivies + MIT: I think you have a good shot at all of them but its hard to make a full chance until you’ve finished all your stuff
CM: match
Rest: definite matches

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/862564-ups-what-can-brown-do-you-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

I would say that you have good chances of getting into Cornell and Columbia. By the way, I’ve been looking for some more math and science competitions, can you post me the links please?

I’d say everything looks pretty solid. You’re in at WVU, VA Tech, and Olin for sure. I’d say yes for Dartmouth, too. Sometimes it’s kind of tricky to say for sure about the Ivies and MIT, though you definitely seem to be on track. You should be good for CMU (:

I would suggest you go and check out the campuses though. You have some schools that are very different from one another, for instance, some of the schools you mentioned are so rigorous that students say it is hard to find time to have a social life. I guess I would try to narrow it down a little before you actually apply. Application fees definitely add up and the apps can be time consuming. Like I said, you have time so you should be fine!

P.S. I’d try to get the math and science scores up just a little for some of the more elite schools and maybe try to do some research/internship or whatever is available to you, otherwise I can’t see why you shouldn’t get in!

Carnegie Mellon - match
West Virginia University - safety?
Cornell - low reach unless your SAT score is catastrophically bad
University of Pennsylvania - mid reach
MIT - reach (for everyone)
Virginia Tech - safety
Dartmouth - see Cornell
Olin - match
Columbia - reach (for everyone)

Thanks for chancing me!

thanks to all of you! to yankees10, i agree about the act i plan on taking it again i think i can bring up my math score its the science im worried about… i am also taking the sat in march. to polaris10, ill see if i can find some links but one of those competitions is only done in my state. but ill post some links for you. to xcgirl23, i agree i want to see some of these campuses before i apply. ive already seen cmu and wvu so theres two down! some of the others id really like to visit but they are farther away so that could b hard. to misspickwickian, no problem!

are we allowed to post links to other websites on here? i was about to post those links but i wasnt sure if that was ok…

you can just private message me the links, if you know how. if not, just post them.

Carnegie Mellon - high safety
West Virginia University - super safety
Cornell - reachy
University of Pennsylvania - reach
MIT - reachadelic
Virginia Tech - safety
Dartmouth - reachy
Olin - safetyy
Columbia - reachahigh

thanks for the chance

MIT and the IVY League are slight reaches because of your ACT score. Try to raise it 1-2more pts.

the rest are matches

your resume is almost spotless, though I’d really stack up on the EC’s if I were you. Though you have a few key projects that you are involved in, the upper crust colleges that you’re looking at expect excellent, if not impossible, standards. Maybe you could volunteer a bit more.

carnegie mellon Low Reach/High Match
west virginia university Definitely In
cornell Reach
university of pennsylvania Reach
mit High Reach
virginia tech In
dartmouth Reach
olin ?
columbia Reach

Have you taken your SAT yet?

You’re a very solid candidate for any of these schools. Though I agree that MIT is reachadelic.

I think you can get in. with the stats that i have i am supposed to able to into CMU and yours are better than mine so you should be fine.

lol thanks steelrealdeal. i agree about “reachaledic” lol but hey i got time. and thanks to everyone else too! to thispakistanigir, im taking the sat in march.

As far as some of those schools being reachy… They’re reaches for just about everyone but if you really want to go there definitely give it shot… You never know!

Carnegie Mellon - match
West Virginia University - super duper safety
Cornell - high match/low reach
University of Pennsylvania - mid reach
MIT - reach
Virginia Tech - safety/low match
Dartmouth - mid reach
Olin - I’m not sure
Columbia - reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/863351-chance-small-school-junior-steel-city-richmond-cmu-ect.html</a></p>

Wow your stats and mine are really similar I think we’re prolly similar people
I’d say you’re in at CMU, WVU, and VT…
THe Ivies are a mid reach (for everyone)
MIT is also a reach esp. Since they seem more focused on superhigh acts and sats
I don’t know about Olin

thanks to everybody! and to clear something up… by olin i am talking about franklin w olin college of engineering. r we all thinking of the same school? lol. cuz some ppl seem to think it is a safety or match and i just didnt know if we were talking about the same school lol. but still thanks everyone for leaving comments i really appreciate it!

wow. thats really iimpressive…
some of the schools im not familiar with, but id say you look pretty good for everything! mit and upenn are the only ones that would be reaches (but they are for everyone) id say u have a pretty good chance!
good luck!

You have a good shot. But the reach schools like Olin are a reach for most.
I’d retake the Act if I were you, bring the math up to a 35-36. and take the math I and math II subject tests and score over a 760 .
