Also (though I suspect it might be too late to do TOO much), any suggestions that would greatly improve my chances?

Everything looks good except your SAT scores. Try to study, retake and get that score to at least 2000, 2100 would be better. What is your GPA? Try for a weighted GPA of 4.0 or higher. Then write fabulous essays and you’ll be fine. Right now, with your current SAT score, it would be a slight reach.

I sure am! That’s the one thing I regret… I didn’t study as hard as I could have on SATs. :X But I definitely will now! My weighted GPA is around 4.1-4.3 (I haven’t gotten my latest latest transcripts but it’s definitely above a 4.0). Unweighted it’s around 3.85. Haha and I def will try to write fabulous essays! Thank you very much for your advice. :)

So, you have very similar stats to the ones I had when I was applying. There’s pretty much nothing you can do at this point besides write a fantastic, personal essay. By all means, that’s not to say that you’re in bad shape at this point. Quite the contrary.

I got in with 1940 SAT 1 and 2340 SAT 2. Just saying…you don’t need 2100 to get into UCLA. And I’m an OOS student.

^
I wonder which SAT2 you took to get a 2340

sum of his SAT2 scores you clod

Please avoid posting 1900 SAT scores for those of you accepted to UCLA. There are hundreds of students out there with much better credentials that got rejected and ended up at UCSD.

Your profile probably contained significant other achievements and/or essays that got you in. Advising other people about below average scores as acceptable is misleading.
@ jayjiggle If you are thinking of applying to the UC’s specifically UCLA or Berkeley, you have to raise your SAT score and focus on one specific ec that has changed you in some way. Believe me, adcom do not and will not look at a list of 20 random ec.

There’s nothing wrong with posting 1900 SAT scores. It just shows that, like the guy said, you don’t need a 2100+ to get into UCLA. Sure people with 1900-2000 scores probably have other more impressive aspects on their application but it is comforting to know that you can get accepted into UCLA without being a great test taker and instead try to do other things that you are better at.

And for the OP, I think you have a pretty reasonable chance of getting into UCLA. Like everyone has said, the essays are one of your last application spices.

Ah thank you everyone for your supportive comments. They’ve generally been very nice and constructive. Basically the advice I’ve been given is to try and score higher on SATs (:P), though my scores are not as dismal as they could be haha, and to write really awesome essays! YEAH!! I’m going to try my hardest for sure. Oh and I just want to clarify about my EC’s; even though there are a whole list, they ARE things I have genuinely been interested in, but it is those in which I have gained officer positions that have honed me as an individual throughout my high school years. For LEOs, I’ve been wanting President since freshman year, to be able to have a say in what affects over 100 members and what helps many since we do a fashion show yearly for the Lions Sightfirst campaign. For Renaissance, it’s helped me just grow as a leader even more and gotten me more in touch with students and staff to let them know they’re doing a fantastic job, hopefully creating a positive campus atmosphere, and to which I’m also president.
These past few statements weren’t really meant to bite back at anybody, I guess it’s just clarification because I know I’ll be needing to address such EC’s as these on my college apps.
Thanks again everyone! I’m glad for everyone who DID get in and for everyone who didn’t, you still have bright futures. Dang I’m getting cliche but I DO mean it…

My roommate and gf got in with about 1500 SATs (new SAT, mind you). They explained their backgrounds and development as a student well, however.

I gave Maths 2, Physics and Chem.

And the reason I mentioned the 1940 is to actually encourage people and that SAT 1 isn’t the only open door to college.

Doubt anyone will read this anymore but update:
I DID get admitted into UCLA. I retook the SAT
and got a score of 2200:
Writing - 750
Reading - 740
Math - 710
I was told my essays were strong so perhaps that helped? Also attended some ELC stuff (dunno if that weighed in).
Also, my weighted GPA when I applied was around 4.38, unweighted 3.82.

Congratulations! Will you be attending?

Congrats! I hope to get accepted!

@Inquiringmind2 Thanks! Most likely, though I am trying to explore my options right now. Kind of stuck between USC and UCLA, but will probably choose UCLA for being cheaper, despite getting no gift aid.

@cellar2 best of luck!! are you a junior?

how did you study for the SATS?

If you had ELC, your acceptance rate jumped from 22% to about 70~75% lol so you were fine anyway :P

What do you mean by you attended ELC meetings? I thought ELC just meant the top 5% of your high school class?
