Chance me please =D

Is it even worth applying to? I'm also applying to UMich, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, UVA, Georgia Tech, University of Maryland and URochester. Thanks!

Read through the ED results thread for the class of 2016, it should give you a good idea of your own chances. SAT2 doesn’t matter as much as your SAT1, and that is where falter. Your GPA is also far too low.

To be completely honest, your likelihood of acceptance is naught since most of the applicant pool is really self selecting. That being said, you may as well apply :P.

I’d say your chances are somewhere in the 50% range. I’m assuming that while your GPA is low’ish, your math/sciences scores in high school were straight A’s given your ACT math/SATII scores. If that’s not true, drop your chances 20%. Engineering is possible to get into much more easily with a lacking GPA if your have proven yourself competent in the maths/sciences.

I have gotten A-'s and higher in sciences and I have gotten two B+'s and then rest were A’s for pre calc and BC calc

Its not impossible…given that you somehow do really good job of explaining the reason for your grades and scores. I am thinking about applying to cornell (economics) as a transfer student and my credentials are far worse but I am hoping to tie everything together in my essay. (reasons why that happened)

I’d have to put your chances closer to the 30% mark than the 50% mark. Engineering may accept people with B+'s/A-'s in English, history, etc. but they really do look for the best of the best in math/science. Your standardized test scores in these subjects were great, but your relatively worse performance in school hurts your chances. Unless perhaps your school is really tough in those subjects. Are you at/near the top of your class in these subjects? Meaning, while you overall are top 15%, are you probably top 5% in math/science? If yes, put your chances closer to the 50% mark, if not, closer to the 30%, at least in my opinion.

hey thanks guys really appreciate it and yes I would say my grades in science and math would be in the top 5% of my class. The reason for my low gpa is due to english really. Although I have never gotten below a B in any class, my lowest grades were in english and mainly other required elective courses like art and advertising. Could any of you help me with my essay as well?

I can try helping you.

thanks, but I sent the essays then looked at this post XD Anyone else? Chances?

Not very high chances-

SAT I low - it matters more than SAT II
rank is low - 90% of the enrolling students (so a even higher % for accepted) are within top 10% of their class
You are a male ORM in the regular pool (When you’re an ORM, you need to aim for above the 75% percentile in order for you to stand a fair chance in the regular pool)

your ecs, rec, and essay may set you apart as a candidate - just have to wait and see.

About essay topic, it may help to describe some aspect of yourself that is not already conveyed form the rest of the application - perhaps talk about some important personal experience that isn’t listed as an EC and refrain from talking about academics. Show them who you are and why you deserve a spot as an exceptional individual among all the college-frenzied sheeple

The SAT really hurts. 2020 isn’t very good when applyin to ivies…
I think the good grades in math and science should help you though.
Do you have a reason for not being very good at english? like staying out of the country for a few years wihout using english etc… if you do have a reason, i hope you explained it.

Asian American, not in top 10% of class, SAT’s below average, COE, equals slim chances

target-reach def.
