Hello.
I just saw Brown for the first time and fell in love with it, and realized I don’t want to go anywhere else. I was going to wait for regular decision since I wasn’t sold on any one college, but after seeing it firsthand I’m going to apply early. Can anyone give me an idea of what my chances look like? Thanks! -Casey

Maybe post scores, GPA, rank, etc?

Wow, well, you have ten days, so I hope you work well under pressure!

In the illogical absence of further information, I have to say about 10%.

Anything more specific than this? Are you not in the top 10%?

Ordinarily I’d say “no idea,” but since we have the same name I’m saying you’re in 100%!

Argh sorry guys, I figured since I had filled out all my stats on my profile I didn’t have to post them here. Should have mentioned that. >>
Yeah, I think I’m in the top 20. But my school doesn’t DO ranking? For some reason?

I’ve taken pretty challenging classes, 7 APs and the rest honors unless they’re not offered honors…
My only serious problem is that I did poorly in my last quarter/semester junior year, since I was overseas in Turkey for a while and had difficulty making up what I missed. On the bright side, I’ve got an awesome essay to write about the experience.
Do you think they’ll overlook that somewhat if I mention it in my essay, and if they see that I’ve got almost all A+'s so far senior year?
I do a bajillion clubs… SAT is 2130… GPA is about 3.9

And I don’t really have to work under pressure, since my application is very nearly done. Just have to edit my last essay.

So yeah. Do I have a shot? I MUST go to Brown!
Thanks guys, I’d like to chance you back, but I really have no clue. ><

It’s senior year. Basically, you’re chance are decent, but not amazing.

A former (by former meaning like 2-3 years ago) reader for Brown admissions said that after a certain point, the readers understand that pretty much all the people in a certain, rather large percentage of applicants will do really well regardless of where they go for shcool. So long as you make it into that category (which most likely you would, based on stats), THEN admins try and find people who would contribute something special to Brown. And, for example, this reader is a Brown alumn, so they knew who fits in, and who contributes to the atmosphere and who doesn’t.

Basically, your chances are about 1-2% if you haven’t shown the adcoms why BROWN is a place that you’ll make a special contribution to. However, if you fit the Brown type, and you’ve shown readers you’ll probably be something special to the school, i’d say your chances are 60+%. But I, and pretty much everyone out there, has no idea about this without seeing your application, without seeing your recs, without your interview, without knowing YOU. And without knowing what kind of things will catch adcoms’ eyes, we can’t give you a better chance than saying “eh, you’ve got a shot, go for it. We’ll see in the end.”

Oh, and take note: MOST kids in your situation would do really well wherever they go. you do NOT have to end up at Brown to have a fulfilling life full of awesomeness.
