Chance me please :D

Hey guys,

I'm a Maryland resident and I currently go to a Montgomery County public school. Just wondering if you could chance me real quick and also for scholars/honors if you want to.

UW:3.4-3.5
W:4.0-4.1

SAT:1910, 590 R 670 M 650 W

Community Service: Approx. 200 hours

ECs:Tennis, track, cross country, debate club, national honors society, It's academic

Also, I'm an asian male and I'm planning to re-take the SATs to try to raise my scores up a little. I did pretty bad, like 3.0 UW 1st semester of junior year, but then raised it to 3.7 UW, 4.5 W 2nd semester.

Also+, Does my senior schedule look fine for colleges to know i'm not slacking off big-time?
1. Honors English
2. Office Aid
3. Anatomy and Physiology
4. Photography
5. AP Statistics
6. AP US History
7. Entrepreneurship

Thanks in advance!

Well I got in and although my SAT score was similar (except switch the reading and math scores around), I didn’t have as many community service hours or ECs. Also didn’t have as challenging a class schedule. I’d say you’d probably be in, but idk, things are probably a lot harder than they were when I applied.

I think you’re in, and probably scholars. SAT is probably a little bit on the low side for honors.

I think you’ll get in, but with your current scores, I think it’d be unlikely that you’d get scholars. The middle 50% SAT scores for scholars is 1300-1410 and 1340-1490 for honors. Average weighted GPA is 4.03 for scholars and 4.27 for honors. If you could get your SAT scores up to 1350, then I’d think you’d probably get scholars. Since your GPA is below the average for honors, you’d have to raise your SAT scores to well above 1400 to probably be considered for honors.

I agree 1260, is probably a no go for scholars. Yrs ago, it probably would be a go, but because the economy is in the tanks, many kids are applying IS. UMDCP has beat previous yr applicants for the past 3 or 4 yrs. I think the last I heard was they had @31K in applications for the class of 12. The class of 10 had @29K. The scholars/gemstone/honors programs are a limited number.

IS helps, I just don’t know if it is enough for scholars/gemstone/honors.

You are Def IN.

Take that SAT again, spend time only on studying CR components because UMDCP superscores. The Math is strong enough and if you get 50-60 pts higher on the CR you will be sitting prettier for Scholars.

Also, they may re-weight your wgpa…what is the weight for AP…4.5 or 5.0? What is the pt scale 7 or 10? I am guessing it is a 5.0, since you had a 3.75 and a 4.5. Hard to have only A’s, but not get the 4.0 if it is on the 4.5.

I am not sure how your gpa can jump to a 3.4-3.5 with only that one semester of a 3.75. What were your gpas for fresh and soph?

You are a showing an upward trend which is great, but I am just questioning the gpa issue, because mathematically it does make sense unless you were a 3.4 for fresh and soph yrs.

To get the best answer you need to be brutally honest, otherwise posters will assume that those are your stats. Please, do not take this comment offensively, I am just saying, some of your numbers are not jivving and I am curious of the reason why.

Oh Bulletandpima, I only had a 3.0 the first semester of Junior year.

Freshman year I had a 3.56 all year round and I think sophomore year I had a 3.56 then a 3.44 or something. But yea, no offense taken :D.

On a side note - Is Northeastern easier/harder to get into than UMDCP?

Maybe you should use the essay to explain that 3.0. You need to fill in the blanks for them.

Northeastern is private if I recall. That means they traditionally have a different process. Privates don’t have their hands tied to admitting IS students, where as public does have their hands tied.

If Northeastern is public, you need to look into where they get the most students from. If MD is a big draw then the competition will be higher and tougher. If they have very few students, than you look better to them from a diversity issue.

For public schools from an OOS standpoint, this idea is driven home when you look at the stats for UMDCP if you are from NJ/NY/CT. They have so many applicants that it is probably harder to get into UMDCP from there than to get in as IS with low stats. UMDCP in the past few yrs went from 30% OOS to 25%. That 5% difference made it brutal for some OOS applicants.

Good luck.
