Chance me please, do I fall into an average applicants pool??

I am an ED Rice applicant. Rice would be my dream school.
I just saw Rice Class of 2014 acceptance result on CC..........................!
To be honest, after seeing it, I got anxious. It seemed like so many ppl got SAT scores over 2300! Also, all other stats were amazing too!
Oh well... please chance me.

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): R 720, M 750, W 790 (2260/1470)
SAT II: US HISTORY (750), MATH II (790)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): why unweighted? hmm mine would be prob 3.9 Weighted is 4.1
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): none
AP (place score in parenthesis): have 5 ap classes in total, only had one exam tho. Is it bad??
Senior Year Course Load: 4 ap classes, 2 honors.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): no major one... :(
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): My school being small and having no school spirit (at all), there are very few clubs unfortunately. Tho I have been involved in a quiz team, and some other clubs.
Volunteer/Community service: I did much more outside of school. I have been involved in many activities concerning foreign immigrants/their children. Some of my essays are about them - how interacting with these ppl changed my view and life.
Essays: Well, I think they are good? They represent me well. But once again, I am not an objective evaluator of my own essays.
Teacher Recommendation:all right, medicore I guess..?
Counselor Rec: He doesn't know me that well.
Additional Rec: This one might be good.
Interview: Not yet.

I am turning in my apps in few days, woah! I think I am getting anxious/nervious/you know what. Can't imagine how I'd go thru till 12/15!

having scores in that range(SAT and GPA) definitely puts you in the applicant pool. don’t feel intimidated by other ppl’s stats. There are just as many applicants who have low scores. Plus, you have pretty high scores and the college won’t just be looking at your SAT. The only thing you need to do is strengthen your EC’s, make your strengths stand out. Talk more with your counselor so that he/she will know you better. Get excellent recommendations and write a great essay. You’ve got one foot in there.

Most people who report scores online have good scores. The sample is all skewed.

Regardless, if you want to go to Rice, then you should apply. Good luck

You sound like you’re in awfully good shape, Lala … and your community service and quiz team sound great! I really believe that essays leave a strong impression on the readers, and so I’d read your essays aloud, slowly, and see if you haven’t left out a detail or two that would make them even stronger … build your case the best way you can.

And then, that’s it: you’ve finished your part, and it’s up to Rice Admissions to burn the midnight oil. Just think of how much work they have to do, while you can take it a little easier!

College confidential’s posters are notoriously self selecting. I have plenty of friends who didn’t score a 2300 on the SAT. I myself barely made the top 10% of my class.

To answer your question succinctly: yes, you are in the average range.

Show them you want to be here and be yourself in your essays. That’s the best advice I can give.

Your academics and scores make you a competitive applicant. Though with such a selective school like Rice, decisions can be unpredictable. If you don’t apply, you’ll never know…
