Bump bump bump

Assuming 33-34 ACT

Duke ED: very low reach
Duke RD: reach
Notre Dame: high match
JHU: low reach
WUSTL: low reach
Cornell: reach
Penn: reach
USC: low match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1546433-updated-umiami-chance-thread-will-chance-back.html

Duke (RD and ED): Well, ED will give you a slight boost, so I’d say ED = High match, RD = Low Reach
Notre Dame: Match
Johns Hopkins: Low Reach
WashU: Low Reach
Cornell: Reach
Penn: Reach
USC: Low Reach/High match

Duke (RD and ED): High match ED, reach RD
Notre Dame: match
Johns Hopkins: reach (ACT)
WashU: low reach
Cornell: high match
Penn: reach
USC: low match

Good luck! I’m considering going ED to Duke as well!

Thanks guys! Good luck with Duke ED, if you decide to go for it.

You definitely have a good shot at all of your schools. Good luck!

I’m so sorry for not having chanced you back within the window I promised I would. I must have thought I did earlier for some reason, but whatever the case, I’m here now, at your chancing service. Let’s analyze:

Your UW GPA seems to be your strongest ally on your application. I see that there’s a lot of rigor in your course load as well, which should certainly help you out in the long run. I can also tell that testing isn’t your strong suit. While a 31 on the ACT isn’t bad (it’s actually stellar), you’re correct in attempting to get it up to a 33 or 34 for college. Honestly, if you bump up the 23 R, then you have an awesome chance anywhere. Take it as soon as possible.

EC’s seem to be multi-dimensional (using your term) so I think that’ll help you out there. The difference between you getting into Duke and any other applicant is that you excel in sports, and for some reason they tend to value that far more than they should in the process. Take it for what it is, and milk it for as much as you can. Your work experience in the sports field is also very good (I’m an umpire too, so I feel your pain).

About now, I see you here:

Duke: High Match ED/Low Reach RD (for everyone)
Notre Dame: Low Match (this may sound cynical, but trust me on this one- if you can break 3.7 UW and 31 ACT and you’re not devoutly Christian, they’ll be salivating over you. I’m Jewish. I understand.)
JHU: High Match
WUSTL: Match
Cornell: High Match/Low Reach
Penn: Low Reach
USC: Match

You’ll make it out alive in the end, picklechicken. That name interests me… picklechicken. Kind of rolls off the tongue, actually. Hmmm… Maybe UChicago needs a picklechicken, you never know.

It’s alright. Thank you so much for the thoughtful response!

:Jawdrop:

Sheesh man, save some awesomeness for the rest of us…damn! You’ve put 4 years of potential misery into the first steps of your life, kuddos to your stats.

I’m probably repeating stuff at this point, but here I go:
SATs/ACTs are holding you back. See how the retake goes.

Duke (RD and ED) Reach/Low Reach
Notre Dame: Match
Johns Hopkins: Match, maybe Low reach
WashU: Match
Cornell: Low Reach
Penn: Low Reach/Reach (just because its Penn, ya know)
USC: Match

Chance back maybe? Always looking for good input from those who’ve accomplished more.
Good luck with the 2013/4 application season!

@TypeRA thanks. My high school career has been by no means miserable though. I make sure I have a fun life, balanced socially and academically. I have consistently gotten 34/35 on reading practice tests, so my ACT score should be 34+. Thanks for the input! If I can pull off a 34 how do you think my chances will be affected?

in my post, I assumed you’d update your ACT score to something along the 33/34ish range based on the rest of your app. I’d like to say everything holds in my chance if your ACT is up there, so good luck with the one-week-left (or are you taking it in october?) scramble. You’ve got this down!

Oh alright thanks! Yeah next week. I’ve barely studied, but still brought up reading 15 points. Thanks! Good luck to you too! Anyone else have any input?

I agree with some of the others here; you have solid chance at pretty much every college in the nation.

Duke: high match/low reach
Notre Dame: match
Johns Hopkins: high match/ low reach
WashU: high match
Cornell: low reach
Penn: mid-reach
USC: match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1551268-chances-lacs-will-chance-back-2.html

Wow, you’re definitely on the right track for the most selective schools!
I’m going to chance you based on if you got a 33 or 34 for the ACT:
Duke low reach
Notre Dame match
Johns Hopkins match
WashU match
Cornell high match/low reach
Penn low/mid reach
USC match

I think you’ve got a great chance at all of the schools you’ve listed.

I have no idea where movieman is getting his info re: Notre Dame. What I do know is that that info should not be trusted, at least regarding what Notre Dame looks for.

You’ve got a great shot at all of these schools because you’ve got a very well-rounded application. ED at Duke is a very likely for you.

Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1553580-wondering-what-my-chances-some-reaches-amherst-bates-bowdoin-brown.html

Guys! Guys!, have you looked at his stats. He needs atleast 35 in ACT and five APs with 5s before we can even utter the word Duke.
Guttentag said the bar for acquiring a top score in each of the categories is continually increasing. Seven or eight years ago, five Advancement Placement exams with a score of five would warrant the top score in Dukes achievement category. Today, about half of the applicants meet this standard.
Word of caution, Scores and APs are very imortant to get into DUKE. That is admissions director talking to Durham Chronicle in 2012.

Thanks for the discouragement but I believe that is incorrect. I had a session with an ex Stanford admissions officer and we went over how most top college rate their applicants on the 1-5 scale academically and non-academically. And a rating of about 2.5 or lower can get you in. But again, thanks for trying to be so discouraging.

You have a ton of volunteering and excellent ECs.
Duke- high match
Notre Dame-match
Johns Hopkins-high match/low reach
WashU- high match
Cornell- low reach
Penn-reach
