I am planning to apply to Northwestern, Duke, JHU, WU, Case Western, UMich, Brown , Rice, MIT , Wellesly and Cornegie Mellon.

No standardized test scores?

I took only ACT and SAT II Math and Chemistry.

You're as competitive as anyone who applies to these schools. To stand out, though, it's important to pick two or three areas of interest and focus on them in the applications; everyone has a laundry list of awards, accomplishments, and extracurriculars. Most top schools prefer passion in 1-2 areas; they're creating a well-rounded class with varied students, not with well-rounded students. The essays are the best area where you can talk about a passion but be careful not to repeat other areas of the application.

You should be sure to spell the names of the schools correctly - not an insignificant item!

There's no real safety school on your list; the top schools are still a crapshoot! My son had 800/800 SAT's, 16 AP's, #2 in the class, etc./etc. and was accepted to only 6/10 schools. Harvard rejected more than half of the applicants with 2400 SAT's last year.

Good luck.

I think you have a good chance at all your schools. Your GPA might hurt a bit, but it sounds like you have some great research experience which should make up for it. Try to get some awards in research too like siemens and intel. Those will help a lot. As neuron39's post confirms, you really do need to focus on showing your passions. For me i talked a lot about research and what i learned from it. Numbers and rank won't be enough to get you in so really try to emphasize certain passions in your essays and I think you will have a great shot. Oh and if you can get recommendations from your research mentors (those help immensely).

Thank you all for your inputs. It helps a lot. BTW, I do have great letters from my research professors. I would like to take their recommendations as well.
