Chance me please!! ED NYU CAS

Hi all,
I am a rising senior and NYU has been my dream for all my life. I will be applying ED I to the CAS (undecided) this fall and want to know my chances. Here are my stats and EC’s:
GPA: 4.2422 -> a mix of A’s and B+'s, but mostly A’s. I have also only taken honors and AP courses my entire high school career.
ACT: 28
AP: APUSH (4) -> I am taking an additional 4 AP classes this year: AP AB Calc, AP Art History, AP French, and AP Literature. I took AP Physics I last year as a junior but I am not submitting my score on the AP test.

EC’s:

  • JV Tennis- 2 years
  • Varsity Tennis- 2 years
  • DECA- 4 years ( 2 time state finalist) -I am on the executive board (leadership)
  • Investment business club- 4 years
  • 80 hours of community service at NYU Langone Medical Center
  • Internship at a Dentists office- 6 hours a week, consisted of helping run the office and shadowing the doctor
  • Part time Job at a clothing store
  • National Honors Society - was voted in Treasurer of the entire chapter (leadership)

About me:

  • My mom is an NYU alumni
  • I speak Russian (bi-langual)
  • I am a first generation American
  • My teachers think highly of me and am sure my recs will be good

Wow. This is REALLY well balanced. I’m sure you’ll be great, since you have aspects in each category. As long as your SATs are great, you’ll be fine!
My dream school is NYU too. Let me know how it goes.

@sternintraining I have a 28 ACT, which is the bottom 25% of those admitted. Idk… what do you think? Do you think my gpa and other EC’s will compensate?

Hmm… I think as long as you have good rec letters and a REALLY determined-sounding essay, you’ll be ok. Just be sure to also tell them WHY you think they’re ideal for you. Good luck.
Try to do better on SATs, but if that isn’t an option, focus on what you CAN do. Take initiative, and show it.

Just be happy, too. Stressing yourself half to death over college isn’t worth it - just work hard, and have a ~little~ fun.

OK. Remember to apply early decision. Your chances increase HUGE.
I’m in high school class of 2020, and NYU Stern is my dream school. I’ve seen so many cases and have done hours of research, so trust me.

Thanks @sternintraining !!

It is not true your chances will increase dramatically if you apply ED at NYU. In the past, there was no difference between ED and RD in terms of acceptance rate. I don’t know about this year but it has been the trend for NYU. You may want to speak with your guidance counselor before making any decision.

I know you may have multiple interests at CAS but the admissions rep that came to my high school this year said that it’s in your best interests NOT to apply undecided – even if you’re unsure, it’s better to apply to something that you’ve shown to be strong in and increase your chances of getting in. Coming into NYU this year as part of the class of 2021, I was also really torn about which major to choose/which program to be in, but the advisors at CAS are super helpful and it’s pretty easy to make a switch if you need to.

In CAS you don’t declare a major until the end of sophomore year anyway, so even if you’ve come in as a certain major, you’re not OFFICIALLY that major until you declare and aren’t really tied down to it.

how can you be a first generation american and your mom went to nyu

also its only a hook if neither of your parents had a college education

@infinity789 both my parents came here when they were young
