I am a rising senior this year and have been working on my college applications. Ultimately, my first choice would be to study biomedical engineering. I live in NC and both Duke and State have great engineering programs which I am considering. I also have a brother who is currently studying engineering at Duke and doing flawlessly there.

However, I got a C in BC calculus (B both quarters, my C on the final bumped me down ) this year and am worried that any admissions officer will laugh at my application seeing that I want to do engineering with a C in BC calc. (I would fully plan on taking calc again in college just to refresh my memory because I would hate to go so long without it.)

This is the order of my top school choices:
1. Duke
2. UVa
3. NC State
4. Georgia Tech
5. UNC Chapel Hill

I have a 4.79 weighted GPA.
3.8 unweighted.
I am in the top 5% of my class. (32 out of 595)

30 on my ACT (taken it only once, will take again in September)
1950 on my SAT (taken it only once, will take again in early October)
680 W /670 M / 600 CR
I know that I am capable of bringing those scores up. I have terrible test anxiety.

3 years Varsity Lacrosse (will be four this year)
Worked a part time job since my sophomore year (~22 hours a week)
National Honors Society
Student Government
Travel Lacrosse
Indoor Lacrosse
Youth Group
Interact (Service Club)
Spanish Club

In total I have taken 8 AP classes, and will have 5 more this year.

No matter what I am going to apply early decision to Duke. I figure why not? It's my dream school and even if it is a bit out of reach it doesn't hurt to try.

I guess what I am asking is what is your personal opinion of my profile? Should I still pursue biomedical engineering? My brother says that being a girl who wants to do engineering should help my chances. Or stick with Pre-dental/Biology. What are my chances at these schools?

Thank you for your time!
