Chance me please?? Feel Like I won't get into any schools and really nervous.

I have been in the US for over two years and my SAT is not good at all. But I have a really good GPA and class rank and with that I applied to couple of nation's top ranked schools.

I applied to BU, BC, northeastern, Tufts. But i think my chances are very little (5-10%) because this year is supposed to be the record breaking year for number of applicants, which is extremely scary and my low SATs.

I participated in a good number of Extra-curricular activities such as National Honor society, Science club, Chess Club, Computer Club, Asian-American Club, Peer Tutoring as well as Soccer.

I was the vice-president of Computer Club and at vice-president at a Local Temple where I thought little kids. I also volunteered at Local Food Pantries, Hunger relief organizations and some other food programs.

I have been working in a youth program since the summer of 2007. There I have been Team-Captain, Crew-Leader and I did fair amount of Public speaking.

I have been All quarter honor roll student, Got nominated for Congressional Student Leadership Program and been nominated for Posse Scholarship.

I am a South-Asian male, have been in the US for two years and have some problem with English. My SAT score is not very good. Cr-490, Math- 540 and Writing- 530. My Toefl score is 91 out of 120. But fortunately I have good GPA- 4.21(unweighted) 3.72(weighted). Rank 7 out of 317 students. Taking 2 AP classes. Rest are Honors. According to my teachers, I have good essays. But I am really worried about my essay.

I applied to BU, BC, Tufts, NorthEastern, Umass Boston, Mass college of Pharmacy, WPI, Holy Cross. I was wondering if being in the US and being minority will help me somehow.

Thanks for taking you time to read this and any answer would numb down my worries!(Although I know that I will probably not get accepted into any of these colleges :( )

BU, BC, Northeastern, and Tufts are most likely way, way out of reach due to your bad SAT scores. They are simply too low for these very selective universities, which sucks trust me, I know (I'm a terrible test taker too). Being of Asian decent unfortunately doesn't help your chances there either, because Asians are no longer considered minorities at most schools.

However, UMass Boston, Mass College of Pharmacy, WPI and Holy Cross you have a decent chance at. I think you should get into at least one.

Then again, this year a record number of people are applying to school. Maybe if there's still time you should consider applying to safety schools. I know Dickinson College is still accepting applicants until February 1st and they don't require SAT scores. All of your other stuff is strong, so I think you would definitely get in there. Plus, it is an excellent liberal arts school (better then any within your reach on your list). Plus, they are in desperate need of minorities. Check it out!

I am the exact opposite of u. I have solid SAT's 660-M 560-CR and 570-W, but a semi low gpa- 3.2. So i definitley understand your situation. I would say the schools u listed are good reach schools but i think Holy Cross or WPI would be a great fit with your information. I hope this helps

Like dreamer said, Asians don't count as minorities anymore in most schools, so that won't help you there. BU, BC, Northeastern, and Tufts are out of reach due to the test scores, but you have good chances at WPI, UMass Boston, Mass College of Pharmacy, and Holy Cross. You can hope to get into at least one of the last four that I listed. You probably have the best chance at Holy Cross, because they don't look at test scores and those are really the only thing bringing you down as the rest of your application is very good.

Is SAT score the only thing colleges look at? If that was so, my other friend who got into Brown had only 1580 with lower GPA than me. I think this website should change it's name because of it's members tendency to prefer SATs more. It should change something like SATCONFIDENTIAL.COM or something like that.

I just spit out what I was drinking. I think that your SATs are wayyyy too low for any of your schools listed. Sorry babayyy

northeastern admission has come out already

Was your friend that got into Brown a magical Native-American Transvestite Vampire that did community service on the moon while deriving differential equations for MIT that were used to bring Neil Armstrong to the moon, all while he wrote and signed the Constitution under the pen-name of Thomas Jefferson after traveling back to colonial America through his home-made time machine composed solely of paper-clips and eco-friendly Poland Spring water bottles?

If not, that SAT score of 1580 was out of 1600, and his GPA was indeed much higher than yours.

How is your unweighted GPA higher than your weighted GPA?

@ Bob.dylan

LMAO :D

@ sowmit
"Weird" things do happen in college admissions sometimes; your friend getting into Brown is probably one of them. So, don't take it seriously. I do feel your very low SATs will far outweigh the "better" parts of your application for an university like TUFTS. Besides, your TOEFL score is also mediocre. Most top universities and colleges expect international students to have 'at least' 100 on the TOEFL. University of Chicago, for instance, requires international students to have 26 on each section of the TOEFL, meaning you must have at least 104 to be eligible for admission. 91 is too low, and the fact that you have lived in U.S. wont help your cause either.

No, colleges do not only look at your SAT scores. But it is an important part of your application. TUFTS gets applicants who have great GPAs, amazing essays, and fantastic ECs (in addition to great SAT scores). No matter how bad a test taker you might be, 1560 is just not good enough, in my opinion. I consider myself I poor test taker too. I always do bad in actual exams than practice tests. For instance, I was constantly getting 2300s in the practice tests of the SAT, but ended up getting 2180 in the actual exam. But it is impossible for me to get a 1500, unless, of course, I intentionally try to do so.

With all said, best of luck with your decisions. You will get into a good college, I am sure. Just don't get your hopes too high for the top schools on your list.
