Chance me please (film)

Hello. Looking for a chance outlook.

GPA: 3.2 uw
ACT: 30
AP: Physics B, Stats, Micro Econ, Macro Econ, Music Theory, Gov & Pol. (5 on all)

I'm an award winning filmmaker. Have experience on a professional movie set where I worked as a PA. Work for Nehst Studios. Headed "The Cleveland Film Group" a 100+ member org for local aspiring filmmakers. Had recs from an Oscar- winning producer for whom I work, Accomplished Director who I worked for, and Sundance award winning Documentarian who I helped edit a doc for.

Had an alumnus go in person to rec.

My essays were some of my finest work as well as the script sample. I worked on these two things with a produced screenwriter and head of development, so I trust his judgement.

I just know that GPA will haunt me.

-Steve

My impression is that a handful of artistically brilliant students with lowish gpa’s do get into arts majors. That said, working on essays and a script sample with “a produced screenwriter and head of development” makes me nervous. Very, very nervous.

Well, let me rephrase that. It was more like this: I wrote all of it up, and then just had him look over my script sample. The essays I had my comp teacher look at. Then I took advice from both of them and made adequate changes.

Breathing a big sigh of relief. Good luck!

Filmmaker–your APs look great, your ACT looks fine, too. Your gpa… not so awesome, but does your school report uw on transcript? Is your HS known to be rigorous and maybe grade deflated? USC knows well each school and their reputation, if that helps.

As for your portfolio/supplement–there is just no way for anyone here to advise an applicant to SCA as to chances. The supplement counts for a lot and it is a subjective review.

That said, your ECs, involvement in films and dedication should impress.

Best of luck!
