-Interests essay was about how I've always been enthusiastic about history and have applied it to other school subjects. It also talks about my desire to form my political identity (approx 300 words)

-Why Vanderbilt essay mentions: the fact that the school now has a significant jewish population, my interest in Nashville the "music city," i am already a fan of the Tennessee Titans (i commented that this is a juvenile consideration), and i talked about the presence of the Hermitage in Nashville, home of my favorite president andrew jackson (approx 350 words)

-my common app essay was about my mother's disability and how it has made me accustomed to challenge and aware of certain issues. (500 words)

I did not have a chance to visit the campus. Will that effect my chances?

No one else from my school is applying.

Out of the most competitive colleges i am applying to, vandy has the lowest acceptance rate but I would absolutely love to go there. Do I have a good shot? Is it basically in the bag or do i have a big weakness somewhere (such as class rank)?

Thanks everyone.

White Jewish girl from New York (originally Jersey), potential history major and lover of all things Music City related, here. =P

I can't speak from experience, but I would think you have a really good shot. If you don't get in, I'm not getting in, so I'll go with you're in haha. Good luck!!

your test scores are very impressive, but what is your W and UW GPA? i'm too lazy to calculate.

IMO, you shouldn't have a problem getting in.

dont know W GPA because my school is on a really weird scale. My UW academic gpa (on a 4.0 scale: A+=4 A=4 A-=3.7 B+=3.3 B=3) my GPA for ONLY ACADEMIC classes is about 3.79

bump.........................

Based purely on a quick look at your stats, I'd say that you have a pretty good chance. Now I'm going to go back and take a closer look.

Okay, I'm back now.

Race, gender, and religion don't give you much edge. Religion maybe, since you wrote about it and that shows a lot of dedication (I don't really know though, as religion wasn't a factor in my admission [Accepted ED I / Female / Mexican Indian / SAT I: CR 760, M 660, W 670 / GPA UW 3.8 / Class Rank Top 12%? {Unsure} / Lots of EC / 600+ hrs of community service] Just a basic overview, so you can see where I'm coming from with my analysis. I also have a sister who was admitted RD last year that I can compare you to.

Very dedicated and diverse Extra Curriculars! Two sports, music, religion, model UN, and drama?! Very nice, much better than mine, in fact. A definite plus, it shows that you can balance Sports, Arts, and Academics.

Work Experience is another thing you have above what I did. However, I’m not really equipped to judge whether or not that helps.

SATs are all very nice. Especially for your SAT II’s I don’t see any problems there at all. They’ll only help you.

As far as class rank goes, that all depends on how your class counselor ranked the difficulty of your course load, and how difficult it is to get a 4.0 at your school.

Your transcript is also very good. Consistent interest has been demonstrated in both French, Math and Laboratory Sciences. This will probably also stand out to them because AP Calc and Psych (while very nice classes) are sort of unrelated to your demonstrated major and show academic diversity.

Your AP scores are amazing! I see no problems there at all.

Essays:
Interests: So long as your enthusiasm shows through I think these will turn out well. I’m a little surprised at the length though (this post is already 300+ words long, granted they are short words)
Why: Applying the location to your varied interests was a good idea, I do feel that you might have put more about Vanderbilt itself, rather than Nashville.
Common: This seems like it was a very nice essay. Personal, and with a moral, two very good things to have in the impersonal admissions process.

Not visiting doesn’t hurt. I had the lucky opportunity to meet the Dean of Admissions, and my sister e-mailed him alerting him to the arrival of my application… but I don’t think that had much of an impact.

All in all I think you have a very strong application going for you. Admissions are very unpredictable, but I feel like all of your hard work will pay off. I’m rooting for you to get in!

Just took a look back at my essay lengths, they are as follows:

Interests: 308 (Heh, I thought it was longer :D)
Why: 493
Common: 936

Luni:
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I'll let you know when i get the results.

No problemo, I hope you get in!

thanks. this whole class rank is still killing me but i guess if they look at how all the other stuff is pretty good i'll still have a decent shot

did anyone recieve a confirmation after they applied?....i applied on the 30th and i havent recieved one
