Senior year is almost here and although I've thought about college, I'm no where near as prepared as my friends. This whole admission and college search thing has left me trapped in a hole in the ground. I have a decent academic background. I've taken AP Chemistry, AP World History, AP Calc AB, AP Language, along with a few other Honors courses. I'm planning to take APBIO, AP Gov, AP Physics, AP Calc BC. I'm a great student in school, but a horrible test taker. SAT- 1970 ACT- 26
My ranking in school is 13 out of 567 seniors and my weighted GPA 4.41.
So far, my college list consist of
NYU
Penn State
UPenn
Cornell
Columbia
Hopkins
UChicago
UCSD
UCLA
UCIrvine
UCDavis
UCSF

Brief summary of my extracurricular activities:

I took a college molecular biology and stem cell course this past summer at UCLA and received an A in that class.
Been on Junior Class Council and will be in Senior Class Council.
Clubs that I have or will hold a cabinet position in: ICMed, Math Club, Science Olympiad, Korean Club,
Clubs: SAVE(political club), Red Cross, Key Club, Courtesy Commitee, National Honor Society,..etc.

Could someone help me determine my chances among those colleges? THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Post your EC’s and unweighted GPA.

NYU

Will be quite tough unless you’re URM, legacy or have some amazing essays/accomplishments to overshadow your (relatively) low SAT/ACT scores. 1970 isn’t bad, but for Chicago and Penn, it raises serious doubts.

Yeah that seems to be my biggest problem- standardized testing. I tend to panic a lot and as a result, low test scores. It seems to be alright because those school are my dream schools. I’m hoping that an amazing essay would help me with those low scores, but what i’m lacking is a great story.

Unweighted GPA- 3.95

Thank you for your advices!

Are you a Califormia resident? if so, you will have a very very good chance of being admitted to one or more of the UC campuses you’ve listed. Your guidance counselor should be able to provide you with concrete information on this point. By the way, UCSF does not have any undergraduate programs. Good luck! You have an excellent record and are in fine shape for the UC system if you are in state.

I am a California resident.
Thank you for clarifying the information about UCSF! I think I had mistaken it for USF.
I would more than happy to be admitted into any of the UCs! It’s just that I’ve lived in California my whole life and wanted to use college as an opportunity to explore the world out of my state.
Thank you for your advice though! It has certainly given me more confidence. All that’s left to tackle now is the UCs Apps. :]
