Any Hooks: Hispanic heritage, (a hook could possibly be NY resident applying to NY land grant school as well)

With good essays and rec's, how do you think my chances would be?

If I were you I would try and get the CR and Writing (very easy in fact) scores up for competitive purposes. I would especially try and get a high Biology SAT II score, though. Since you’re applying to CALS they’ll probably look at that a bit more than some of the other colleges. This really isn’t the SAT Prep board, but you can go there. I would really get a good prep book and thoroughly go through it. If you’re currently taking AP Biology, a textbook would help even more. Compared to the AP course, the subject test is much easier.

As for essays, you would need to differentiate yourself in some way. Find a way to make yourself unique (I think closely reading essay prompts helps a lot with this), and don’t be afraid to have someone competent and trustworthy work on your essay with you. For recommendations, head to two experienced and good teachers that you’ve had in the past. Presumably, you’ve done well enough in their classes for them to notice you.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I have already submitted my application in already, but I will definitely take your advice on taking Biology SAT II again in January. Hopefully Cornell will receive the score before they review my application.

I do believe my essays are very strong, and hopefully will make up for my weak reading score. Fingers crossed!

Anyone else with additional feedback, I would highly appreciate it.

Being Hispanic is definitely a hook. you seem like a great leader, Cornell loves that. I dont think your bio score for SAT II should have any affect. I never even sent Cornell my SAT II scores.
