Decent essays.

Only possible hook for Columbia is that my dad works at Columbia's Medical Hospital for ten years now.
First generation college student.

Please chance me and tell me what I can do in the last two months, if anything, to improve my chances. Thanks!

I think you’ve got a pretty good shot =) The only possible downside I see is being ORM, but SLIGHTLY better test scores would help too (I have the same problem, so no worries)

For the last two months, I saw just really work on those essays and make sure that who you are shines through, best of luck to you! ECs and everything look , and 8 APs is a really good number for a course load.

Chance me back! =) http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1210710-chance-me-please-new-cc.html

Thanks! What does ORM stand for?? And yeah, I’m retaking SATs in Oct. Hopefully I can get over 2300+

Why all caps in the title? :)

ORM = Over-Represented Minority, e.g. Asians in college

decent chance. make sure you need to make SAT higher. Hopefully since your dad works there, it might boost your chances

You can’t apply ED and EA…

I think you’ve really done all you can, so it looks like a good shot. I’d venture to put you at a 50/50 toss up which, hey, compared to the real acceptance rate is very generous. Your dad works at Columbia, you have great scores, flawless grades and classes, superb ECs. what more could you have done if you don’t get in? if you don’t, don’t blame yourself, i’d accept you

Do you guys know if columbia weighs a A+ higher than an A or A-, or are they all the same?

Question: what exactly is “first generation” student? ur the first in ur family to go to college? but ur dad works in a medical hospital… so that means he works a professional career but had no post secondary education? plz explain

woah didn’t see all these responses.

@power4good, my parents both went to top universities in China. My dad actually went to rutgers for graduate school, but I mean I’m the first in my family to attend an undergraduate college. Whatever, not that that’s really a hook. I know plenty of people in the same situation as me.

@dasdui, not sure… A+ is probably higher… but who knows. It’s all pretty similar

@mustangman, thanks!

@CSIHSIS, yes you can to schools that are nonrestrictive EA, you’re allowed to…

@zergftw, yeah i took the SATs again last week… hopefully my scores went up.

All I can say is I’m glad you are not considering MIT because you’d probably take my spot. Columbia sounds like a match to me but I’m just a humble teenager looking for a college myself.

i mean, you’re qualified academically and have decent E.C.'s, but honestly i dont see anything here that makes you stand out. your most attractive quality is the fact that your dad works for columbia, and that doesn’t have anything to do with you as a student/person. just being honest. anyway, best of luck

did you get into columbia ed??

Whatever the result is, neverstopsmiling!

Hahaha, nope. Deferred :)
