I have pretty solid grades (mostly As and a couple of Bs) but I'm really worried because I got a C one semester in a honors class even though I got an A the other semester. Most people at our school also do badly in this class. Does this grade matter if I'm not going to be a science or engineering major? Is this a dealbreaker?

To me, your scores look great…very strong on all levels…Can I ask a question though? (because my kid is considering Johns Hopkins as well…and visiting there this week). What is it about Johns Hopkins that attracts you? Why is it your dream school?

I don’t know how to really answer your question. For me, each time I visit or do more research, i just fall in love with the school even more. Not trying to be cheesy, but I guess the answer to your question would be everything.

You’re a strong applicant, and I recommend reconsidering ED if finances are at all a concern. You’d have a great shot at merit aid at some pretty decent schools with those stats. Tulane is very generous with merit scholarships and has a fantastic Meso-American program, for example.

It’s admittedly much harder to find good archaeology programs in the US than Europe, and JHU certainly has a good one, but there’s others out there.
