Chance me please! For Ivys

My first choice is Columbia University, and I'm considering early decision for it, but I'm also interested in pretty much all the other Ivy Leagues. I want utter honesty, please. :]

Ethnicity: Asian.
Legacy: I had a few cousins who went to Columbia SEAS, and my brother is at Princeton University.

GPA
(Unweighted): 4.0
(Weighted) : unsure, but I took a good amount of APs so it should get higher.
*Most likely Top 15% of the class.

SAT: 2130
V-690
W-780
M-660 (I know, it's low.)

ACT
33
Taking it again this month. Should I submit this or my SAT I?

SAT IIs:
Literature: 690
Physics: 690
US History: 690
I know these are low, and I'm planning on taking Lit over again and Math I this October.
(p.s. can the writing score on the SAT I be submitted as an SAT II?)

AP
10th--World History: 4
Biology: 3
11th-- Physics: 3 (obviously, science is not my strong point)
US History: 5
Literature: 4
12th-- Language, French, Calculus, Chemistry, Government.

You have pretty solid grades and good scores (submit your ACT, not your SATI). Your subject tests are low but I’m not sure how much they are truly taken into consideration. You have pretty solid ECs as well, but I’d have to say that all ivies would be a reach for you (as they are for almost anyone). Are you looking at any other schools or just Ivies? I feel you need some back ups!

Thank you for replying!
I’m not doing just Ivies, I’m applying to a lot of other schools too, but those would (obviously) be the most favorable to me.

also for an addition to this thread, I think I’m a good writer so my essay should be pretty solid. I also have teachers who I have really good relationships with to write my recommendations (both english teachers), along with my golf coach and maybe even a professor from SSP as a supplementary recommendation.

For your recs: I think you should mix it up, and ask one english and one math/science teacher! As for your chances, youre ACT is better than your SAT and I don’t know if you should send in your SAT score. Your gpa is very good and your EC’s are pretty good. You should however really get those subject tests up since they aren’t very high. Good luck!!

Yeah, I definitely have to get my SAT IIs up, I understand those are pretty good indicators to schools of how you’ll do in college. Unfortunately, I’m not on great terms with any science teachers, but I’ll consider it. Thank you for replying! :]

Most of the ivies accept fewer than 5% who were not ranked in the top 10% of their class. Almost all of those have a hook.

^interesting situation though, since he does have a 4.0 UW gpa… not much he can do about it. Are you sure youre only top 15% with a 4.0 UW?

I don’t know what my ranking is yet, but that was just an estimate. I have a good chance of being in the top 10%, I just didn’t want to be too assumptive, I suppose.

Also, I’m a she. haha.

It just means other students had more rigorous course loads which would also make an ivy highly unlikley. It’s actually quite a common situation.

Again, that was just a guess. I have no idea what my rank is. But if for these purposes let’s just say top 10% then, because I have been taking the most rigorous classes my school offers. Do you think I have a shot at the Ivys?

If you have a 4.0 in your school’s most rigorous courses you should be at the very top of your class. If that’s the case I would suggest trying the ACT to see if you can do better than the SAT scores.

If you’re below top 5% I would say that’s not worth the effort and to focus on realistic reaches.

Whoops, see you took it, with the 33 and top few percent the lower ivies are worth a shot.
