Essay on Hurricane Charley and Aftermath and how I have changed after it.

Chances at Weinberg SAS?

bump...anything?

Very strong ACT and very strong grades. I wouldn't call you a lock for two reasons: first, no one is a lock and with the new Dir. of Admissions of Princeton in town, he will likely be sure to reject those he fears will not come to Evanston if invited. If NU has reason to believe you will attend another school (Duke, UPenn, Columbia...yes, I perused your other posts), then you might get a surprise small envelope.
Second, your ECs are lacking. It looks like a laundry list and there appears to be no rhyme or reason for your activities. If the person reviewing your app cannot SEE you on campus, being a productive student (and having a high GPA alone is insufficient), then you also might not get in.
Overall, I'd say you have an excellent chance, but the very high stats and haphazard ECs mean you are behind the 8 ball in showing demonstrated interest and an identity.

How can a weighted gpa be more than 1 point above unweighted? What grading system does your school use?

But on topic...I hope you have a good shot (and I think you do), because otherwise I have hardly a chance

"but the very high stats and haphazard ECs mean you are behind the 8 ball"

so cerebralassassin, are you saying that having high scores and less EC's is better? I'm not sure I understand. Also, i couldn't fit half of those EC's on the common application, so they will only know of those that I am truly committed to.

Plus, I don't really think demonstrated interest is that important when applying regular decision.

No I'm saying high scores, strong ECs, AND demonstrated interest are the best.
With your high scores (which are higher than NU's average), if you don't show interest, NU is going to assume you using NU as a psuedo-safety.

And demonstrated interest is EXTREMELY important in RD. Think about it...it is pretty much a non-issue in ED, because there is no more "demonstrated interest" than promising to attend if accepted. EA is a little more complex depending on whether or not it is EA Single-choice. In any event, NU knows that you are applying to myriad different schools. It wants to know that if you are accepted, you are likely to attend. With your scores, you are likely to get into a school that is as good or stronger than NU, (Duke, Stanford, MIT, ivies). You need a good Why NU? essay to show that you would consider turning down those top schools for NU.
If you don't do so, you may not get in.

is there any other way to show demonstrated interest besides in the why NU essay?

Visiting and staying overnight. Beyond that, no.

Hmm, perhaps I should do an overnight then. I did really like my 'Why NU?' essay too, so I do hope that gets some consideration. Pending MIT decisions, I just may see you guys in Evanston next year if admitted (knock on wood).
