lol:

Copy-paste fail.
What school within CMU?

haha sorry.

At CMU, I’m definitely majoring in Biology so it’d be the Mellon College of Science

… President of both Asian and Muslim clubs? You are an Asian Muslim? :stuck_out_tongue: That’s a new one for me.

I’d place you in the middle-match to low-reach range. Your stats and ECs are about average for MCS. Good, but nothing extraordinary.

Well, I was born in Pakistan. Pakistan is a country within the continent of Asia, and on college apps I’m grouped with the demographic of asians.

So yes, I do call myself asian.

Just waiting for the day that SOUTH asian becomes a viable heritage option.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/dartmouth-college/1016634-chance-me.html

^ridiculous
@Jaialai, I’d say a fair shot at MCS  If you can raise that math and/or bio SAT to 800 or something you’d be in even better shape.

no.

go make you own thread rather than dumping in other peoples’. That’s standard “chance me” etiquette.

@Jaia: I agree with Euroazn, try and bump those scores if you can. Also, I never knew that Pakistan was grouped with Asia - how strange. There definitely should be a south Asian option :p

I assume everyone on here would agree that India is in South Asia and it does dominate size-wise but it is a very diverse region --just look at that map! Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka are all in South Asia and and so you know there will be many Muslims that come from South Asia. South-east asian would include countries such as Indonesia (mainly Muslim) as well as Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc. There must be kids at CMU from all of these areas–either as foreign students or second/third generation Americans. It must make for an interesting mix.

I don’t know but the OP’s scores look great to me for a science major. Attending the Governor’s School (we live in VA) means a lot and I am sure the admissions officer for the region knows that. CMU seems to like the VA kids. Congratulations! I would think your prospects are very good.

South Asia should be a separate category. Culturally there are quite a few differences between that region and what people normally think of as ‘Asia’ (China, Korea, Japan, &c).

SAT scores look slightly low from what I’ve seen, but I think you are a fairly solid applicant even within that (just based off of my knowledge of their admitted student profile). The presidencies in the Asian & Muslim student associations are probably the most memorable extracurriculars you have. Also, Literature Club. =) My school needs one of those.
