Chance me please for the possibility of getting into Columbia.

Hi. I am currently a high school senior and getting into Columbia University has always been an aspiration of mine. However, I do understand that my grades and standardized test scores have put me in the position to make Columbia a reach school instead of a target. I just want to know if I have a good chance of being considered, despite the slight academic disadvantage in comparison to most of their students and alumni. Thank You !

Alright, here is what I can tell you my friend. First off, Columbia is not a target school for anyone, unless they cured cancer or something (same with all Ivies). Your GPA is on track, but your SAT needs to be increased considerably to make you competitive. For instance, a 2250 would be competitive. Your course load is rigorous, but so is everyone else’s unfortunately. You have several interesting EC’s, but it’s all about how you present them. Make sure to list achievements, leadership, positions, etc - not just a laundry list. Show depth over breadth. Finally, I would concentrate on having solid essays and recommendations - they can make or break you. Your ethnicity helps as well, but isn’t a free ticket in by any means. I would say that Columbia is still a high reach. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and I urge you to apply, you never know what might happen!

If you could chance me back as well, I’d really appreciate it!

I’d say your demographics will help you, given that you come from a single parent household. However, I’d consider Colombia a high reach, but hey, you never know. In these top schools your essay could make a world of difference. Maybe you can talk about how you decided to take hard classes and be prestigious even though you faced so many truobles at home.
Chance me back?
