You’re a great student, so good job on that. You might want to take either the ACT or your Math II again as both of those scores are good, but not great. Only do this if you think you can make a huge improvement. Other than that, you’ve done an awesome job, and here are your chances!

USC - High Match
UCLA - High Match
UC Berkeley - Low Reach
Emory - High Match
Michigan State - not sure
Duke - Low Reach
WashU - Low Reach
UF - Safety (University of Florida?)
JH - Reach (It is for everyone, let’s be honest)

I think every school here is a match if you get your act score up. That being said even with the current score I think you can get into every school listed. Good luck and thanks for chancing me!

Berkeley, UCLA, and Michigan are high reaches because you need to get a substantial merit scholarship (rare at these schools) to be able to afford them as an out-of-state student with significant financial need.

Try running the net price calculator on each school’s web site.

You have really good numbers, but the ACT could be higher if you want good chances at UCLA, USC, Cal and the schools “ranked” even higher. Maybe look for some better matches in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. There you’d have a good shot at merit aid. Many many kids applying to the schools you mentioned have >32’s and 4.0’s.
My S has almost the exact same stats as you, and we look at the above schools as 50-50 chance for him. He’s not even considering Emory, Duke or Wash U.
Bump that ACT up and it might put you in a whole different category. Good luck!

@maggpie - AP classes are calibered to a 6.0 here. Honors courses are calibered to a 5.0. And i’m hoping my abundance of leadership positions will catch the admission officer’s eye, hopefully. And okay thank you ! Good Luck to your son in his acceptances
