im applying for engineering school
and i have two questions
if i apply for early decision and dont make it b/c of my test scores
can i apply for regular when i get better test scores
and for act do they only look at composite scores or do they look at score for each section?

I think that you have a really good chance. Your ACT is right in the middle of their accepted range and you SAT score looks like it is well above it. You have an excellent GPA and some good ECs.

To answer your questions: I might be wrong, I don’t believe that you can apply for early decision and later apply for regular decision. Basically, their Early Decision is a rolling admissions (since that is what they have) but ensures that you get your notification of your acceptance by a certain date.

I think that they look at your best composite, and will only glance at your subscores to make sure that they aren’t drastically unbalanced. In other words, as long as you don’t have a very large discrepencies between subscores it shouldn’t be a problem. I would say that you would be fine if your subscores are at least a 22 or 24 and above. Anything below a 20 should definately be retake, or not sent in at all.

If you were an in state applicant I would say that you are pretty much in, but I am not as familiar with thier outlook on out of state applicants. I have heard that they are much harder on their oos applicants. I would try to raise your ACT score by at least to points and you would be in MUCH better shape as an oos applicant.

Are you taking the ACT in September? or October? In my opinion, I would complete the application, but don’t send in any of your test scores yet. Then have your ACT score from the test you are about to take sent in right away by filling it out on the registration form. That why they can’t look at your application because it is not complete and your test score might get there in time to be evaluated before the Early Decision deadline.

Hope this helps! If you have any questions just ask! (sorry my answer was so long!)
