Your GPA is good, but it’s on the low side for engineering. You have strong test scores and ECs. Both of those colleges have high acceptance rates overall, but for STEM majors the acceptance rates fall to around that of T15 schools. So these are both appropriate reach schools for you. Make sure you have matches and likelies as well.

Run the net price calculators on both schools. Indiana offers in state tuition to Illinois residents and vice versa, but these two schools are exempt from that exchange. So one is potentially going to cost significantly less than the other if you are a resident of either state.

Do some research on open major vs. direct admit schools too, ideally before you choose your matches and likelies. At UIUC, for example, you could be rejected from the engineering department, but put in DGS-Prep, which is like an open major. You’d have to reapply for engineering based on first year GPA. If your grades slip (or don’t meet a threshold), you could be shut out of your desired major. Purdue is similar. Careful research can help avoid such scenarios.

Good luck!
