The Walsh School of Foreign Service is my dream school because I am passionate about politics and government and most of the professors have worked in DC and have direct experience in the fields they are teaching. I would appreciate any chances and/or recommendations as to whether I should apply EA or RD to attempt to bring my GPA up a little. Thanks for your help!

Might as well apply. I’d say it’s not a super likely school for you. HOWEVER, I could well be missing lots of information that the committee sees and likes. Most people get rejected - do not fall into the mentality of thinking that’s because the pool isn’t qualified. With very few exceptions they all are. Your GPA and class rank are too low, even for a competitive public school, and I think Georgetown will see that and probably look to admit one or more of the ~166 students ranked above you, many of whom will very likely apply.

If you love government and politics as you say, I’d take your credentials to some other target options, whilst using the ‘submitting and forgetting’ approach at Gtown. Some targets for you might be schools like NYU, Northeastern or BU, or some liberal arts colleges with good programs at around the 30-40% acceptance rate range, just as a general reference (though accep % is not something to go by all the time). Best of luck.

Thanks for the input. The only thing I should add is that I’ve had all A’s freshman and Junior year. My bad grades were sophomore year bc I was training for the junior Olympics in fencing. Not that this is an excuse and I know that there are other students who wouldn’t have let their grades suffer but do you think including this might show that I am capable of doing well?

That absolutely is a valid reason for grades dropping, and I highly suggest you use the additional information section of the common app to explain that your grades dipped slightly due to a PHENOMENAL EXTRACURRICULAR intersection.

Alright thanks for your help!
