Basically, I love research and I know attending Georgia Tech will give me access to perform world-class undergraduate research and participate in prestigious internships relating to my true passion: biology. Any advice you guys could give about improving my application would greatly appreciated. And please do not make fun of my scores as I have truly tried to improve them but this is the best I can do and I don't think this matters much but I am also an African American in a family that makes less than $30,000 a year. Thanks!

If you get in, you are in state and your family makes less than $33,000 a year you should apply for this:

<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Financial Aid”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Financial Aid;

You are below their 50% range in test scores which is your weakness. I would try raising them. Are you taking 7 AP’s this year or are you missing scores from some on your AP’s.
Mid 50% ranges for GA Tech:
SAT 2050-2240
Verbal 670-770
Math 700-780
Writing 650-730
ACT 33

Thanks MichiganGeorgia I will definitely be applying to that if I am accepted. And scubadive, yes I am taking 7 AP’s this year that is why some of them do not have a score and for raising my scores I have been studying intensively for both the ACT and SAT but I am just not getting better. That is why I was hoping that my other academic qualities could out-way or at least supplement my abysmal scores. I will however be taking the SAT again in October and hopefully I can at least get the math score in the 50% range.

With your perfect GPA and all of those AP courses, how can you explain your low SAT and ACT scores??

^ Given the fact that OP’s AP scores are mostly 3’s I’m thinking that OP has some trouble with timed standardized tests. Some people just aren’t good at taking timed standardized tests but can do the work in class…

For the record, I made 610 M, 660 W, and 780 CR and still got in to Tech. Don’t even get me started on my ACT scores. Scores aren’t everything. Everything else looks great though!

It depends if your are going into engineering then nooo. I know someone who got 36 ACT 4.3 gpa ok ecs and got rejected

GA tech does not consider major for acceptance

Hi… I applied EA and I’m super stressed about getting in as well. I am practically in the same bucket as you. To sum it up: I am a white female from GA. I have a cumulative 1790 and 28 on SAT and ACT. 620 math and 28 math. I know those are on the low end but my GT calculated GPA is 3.98 and I’ve taken the most difficult math and science classes offered at my school. My essay was unique and looked at by my lit teachers. I have many EC: piano for 10+ years, volleyball varsity 3 years, soccer varsity 4 years (plus since I was 4), I have volunteered with church band for 5 hrs a week/all year for 5 years and I have taught Sunday school as a paid job for 5 years. I’m in NHS and senior representative in SGA. I volunteer at horse stable most Saturdays. I have received many awards for grades and sports. I teach piano to 3 children. I also have 2 recs from outside sources that are alumni of tech (one of them a large donor) if that means anything… that’s all I can think of at the moment. I am freaking out. Someone want to chance me as well??
