So, things keep slipping and I'm getting worried. Stats are:

UW GPA: 3.6-3.7 (probably 3.7)
Weighted GPA: 4.5 exactly
Class rank: Top 25% (Ultra-competitive high school, #1 of last years senior class had a 4.93)
APs: 9 by the time I'm done with HS
SAT: 2020 (730 CR, 680W 610M [OUCH!]) retaking soon.
200+ service hours

Community service:
Summer 2010: Took care of 2000+ gallons of aquariums (by myself), including endangered species of cichlids.
Summer 2009: Took care of 2000+ gallons of aquariums, including endangered species, and created a seminar to teach younger kids about marine mammal rescue.

Awards: Lots of minor ones, but I was the American Cichlid Association C.A.R.E.S Member of the year in '08.

Other cool stuff: Published in the American Cichlid Association's journal at age 13, runner up for best article of the year.

Essays: Will be beastly.

Teacher recs: Will be epic.

Counselor rec: Great.

Will apply stating a STRONG interest in fisheries science.

You can’t submit any recs unless you’re applying for Honors, btw. On another note, you have a decent shot at being accepted (considering you are OOS). Raise SAT to 2100+ and you should be golden.

I’m a HS junior and wondering about my chances as well so I don’t have anything super helpful but I just wanted to say your stats are pretty impressive. Kudos on the community service. From what I’ve researched/heard someone like you would have a great chance of getting in. I agree with the above poster, if you raised your SAT score to about 2100 with some studying this summer or in the next few months for the June SAT you should be good. Keep up your grades this final semester of junior year and try not to rely on AP incentive, if your school does that for raising semester grades. (A if you get 5, raise 1 letter grade if you pass with a 3 or a 4)
just finish out your year strong! good luck from a fellow jr in the same situation!

You don’t even need a 2100 to get in if you’re in-state. I know people who are currently UW freshmen who got in with 1700s lol and the rest of their apps weren’t that fantastic. But OOS is diff.

I might apply for honors for no other reason than to send in my recs, because they make me so much more desirable as an applicant. Seriously, my teachers pretty much love me.

^exactly. Don’t apply just to send in teacher recs. I believe they evaluate you with the recs for honors but if you don’t get in, they won’t use the recs. Although I may be wrong…

Not to hijack the thread but is the honors program worth applying to if you are used to challenging classes in high school? I’ve also been in gifted programs since I was in elementary school.
