Chance me please! I chance back!

I kind of updated some of my concerns and info. :) And tried to lower the list of top colleges a little bit, but I do have safeties in mind in case anyone is wondering.

I am a rising senior and interested in math/computer science as a major. Please chance for as many as the following as you are comfortable!

MIT
Stanford
Caltech
HPYs
UChicago
UC Berkeley
CMU
UT Austin

Academic
SAT: 800math/760critical reading/720 writing
SAT II: 800 math IIC, 770 chemistry, 740 physics

GPA - 3.89 unweighted. I am top 10% in my class (but not top 5%) but of my Bs, 4 out of 5 of them were from freshman year. How much will this hinder me? (freshman grades + class rank) It would be a lot better if my school weighted grades for harder classes (my counselor confirmed this) but unfortunately that's not the case and my rank is where it is.

If it helps, my weighted GPA (with honors, AP counted as 5) is 4.54.

Is it better to highlight these discrepancies (harder classes, freshman grades) on an app? I really dont want to be cut just because i'm not in the top 5%.

Honors/AP Classes
English: Honors 9-11
Math: Geometry Honors (8th), Algebra II Honors (9th), AP Calculus BC (self-studied in 9th), Multivar calculus, Linear algebra (both 10th)
Science: honors biology (9th), AP physics C (10th), AP CS/chem/bio (all 11th)
History: APUSH (11th)

My next year I will be taking AP gov, AP english, 2 college CS classes, and college differential equations.

AP test scores: calc BC (5), physics C mech. (5), chemistry (5), apush (5), biology (4)

Extracurriculars

play tennis outside of school (in a local junior program)
academic super bowl math team (10th, 11th grade)
played piano for 6 years

one of 110 people invited to Canada/USA Mathcamp
qualified for AIME (math) in 9th 10th 11th grade; got an 8 once but never made USAMO
USA Math talent search: bronze, 10th and 11th grade
represented my state's ARML team (A team) in 2011, 2012, 2013
USA computing olympiad (currently in silver division)

I have tutored younger children in math locally since 11th grade and help at local math competitions.

I participate in programming competitions very frequently, particularly Topcoder (rating is 1600ish) and Codeforces (rating is 1800ish) if anyone knows about those.

I play 2000+ rated on chess.com (lol) because there aren't tournaments where I live even though we have math competitions >:<

I would really^1000 appreciate some feedback on the extracurriculars especially from some other math/science people :D

Essays are likely to be amazing!! Recommendations will be good, but not as much as the essays.

Particularly will my mediocre rank and lack of school-related ECs hurt?

Thanks if you read all of this and I will give you equally candid feedback if you want me to chance back!

As someone who might know you and has similar academic credentials and activities, I would say that you are an instant reject for all the colleges you mentioned. :D

Just kidding.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1532897-linguistics-chances-updated.html</a></p>

HYP–low reach (wow that’s rare)
MIT–high match
Stanford–high match?
UT Austin–low match
Unsure about the rest.

Your rank is good, colleges like to see an upward trend, and there’s a box for your guidance counselor to check to say if rank is weighted or unweighted on the common app. School related activities aren’t necessary and are actually not as respected as independent passion-driven ECs :)

HYP: reach
MIT: reach
Stanford: reach
UChicago: low reach
UCB: match
CMU: match
UT Austin: safety

Write good essays and make sure to emphasize some focus and passion when writing about your ECs

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1529474-chance-me-ucla-please.html</a></p>

Wow, you have really great EC. And what I noticed is that they aren’t just : volunteered at library or other thing that almost everybody does. You have EC’s that actually focus at a high level upon your major. I think MIT will notice this especially compared to the others. I would say you have a good chance, but since the stature of all those schools, reaches because they are reaches for everyone. Good luck and you should get into at least one of those upper-tiered schools!

@AwesomeToad T_____T

thanks everyone else, it means a lot! i chanced you guys back too :D

I would say that you are definitely in at UT and CMU… you will be a competitive applicant for the others

Chance back please

HYP: reach
MIT: match
Stanford: reach
UChicago: low reach
UCB: match
CMU: match
UT Austin: low-reach

You seem to have a strong passion for mathematics, and cater your essays towards that…colleges want to see it.

Can you chance me? My plan is Columbia ED, Stanford ED or ivies
2250 SAT I
800 Math II 790 Chem
top 2% of my class, 4.0 GPA
founder of 2 clubs for international organizations
3x NSE gold medalist, VP of National Spanish Honor Society
raised $15,000 for an international organization, did charity work abroad
300+ quality community service working with special-needs
raised $900 for local disasters in my area
I am an asian male.
I am trying to cater my essays towards a passion for volunteering

PM’d you rebel71 since i saw your message first
thanks guys + chanced Rainbow Pitbull back!

bump! please chance me! I will chance you back candidly!

HYP: reach
MIT: reach
Stanford: reach
UChicago: reach
UCB: match
CMU: match
UT Austin: low match

CMU Computer Science is highly difficult. I hope you get in my friend.

thanks
deathly scared about class rank

HYP: reach (reach for everyone haha)
MIT: reach/low reach
stanford: reach
UChicago: low reach/mid reach
UCB: match/ high match
UT Austin: safety of course

edit: just a thought, how did you manage to self study AP Cal BC after alg II O.o

my school was kind of weird and didn’t let me skip but i knew most of the algebra 2 stuff at the time (i self studied the ap calc stuff the same year and took the ap test)

thanks for the feedback :D

Did you take outside classes or something? how did you know alg 2 stuff before took it?

MIT: Reach
Stanford: Reach
UCSB: High match

Your math is really great by the way! Make sure your essays are strong.

Definitely on par for MIT, Caltech.
UChicago: low reach
Stanford: reach
HYP: reach

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1534126-how-do-my-chances-look-duke-ivies-etc.html</a></p>

Don’t worry too much about rank!! (is your school competitive?) My school doesn’t even rank, so it really doesn’t matter that much. Also, no need to mention how you improved, they will see that from your transcript.

I think with your passion for math, you have good chances! Just emphasize on those. Your stats are fine. For freshman grades, also don’t worry too much. Also for computer engineering, it doesn’t really matter where you go, the demand for this market is super high, and any of those schools will do the job of teaching you the skills you need for your future career.

MIT - reach
Stanford - reach
Caltech - reach
HPYs - reach
UChicago - not familiar
UC Berkeley - match
CMU - match
UT Austin - not familiar

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1533472-chance-me-top-business-schools-please.html</a></p>

I would not freak out too much about rank as long as, like someone else mentioned, you have an upward, which you seem to have.

Your math skills and interest make you a good match for MIT and Caltech. Unfortunately, thousands of other applicants are also matched for MIT and Caltech in a similar way. :(

Most of these schools seem like mid to high reaches for you, just by the nature of the intense applicant pool and crapshoot admissions, and by no significant fault of your own.

Here are my thoughts:
MIT - reach
Stanford - reach
Caltech - reach
HYPs - reach
UChicago - low reach, maybe high match if essays are truly outstanding
UC Berkeley - match
CMU - match
UT Austin - not familiar

Good luck! Chance me back please? Thank you! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527858-chance-me-harvard-yale-etc-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

I chanced all of you back!!! BUMP!!! :D
