I’m an OOS Student from New York
UW GPA: 3.56 I am in all honors classes
ACT Composite: 27
Just based on these scores what do you think my chances of getting in are?
P.S. I’d be paying full tuition. We won’t receive any need based financial aid
depends on the major and the rigor of your school, but you’ll probably get in.
Should get in, no guarantee but it looks good from those few stats you gave
An unweighted 3.56 GPA is kind of low… especially more so if you don’t have numerous AP courses/credits to back that up. The average ACT score at UGA is also 30. Your academics and scores fall below UGA’s averages.
Of course, your major choice matters, as does the high school you attended. If you couldn’t take any AP courses because your school simply didn’t offer any, then that’s fine. But otherwise, not looking good.
I wish you much luck on your application to UGA and hope you get in. But with that said, I don’t think your chances are very good. Not unless you have a significant “hook” that separates you from the rest of the applicant pool.
I agree with @theconformist. I had similar stats to yours, and I got waitlisted. I had 10 AP classes too and didn’t make less than a B in any of them. The competition has only increased for this year’s applicant pool.
Are you a first generation student? A minority? Any unique extracurriculars or volunteer experiences? Any other hook?
That being said, hopefully you wrote some great essays, and got a great teacher rec letter to push you to the “yes” pile.
Thank you all for your feedback! My school doesn’t offer any AP. Since my school is a private school, every student must take the same exact courses. So basically I’m in the same curriculum as students going to Ivy League schools. with that said my class rank is top 20%. I applied as a business major. I wish you all the best of luck in your college search.
UGA will definitely factor in that you don’t have any AP courses at your school. This may be a bit of a double-edged sword for you however, since your GPA is still a 3.56 and you didn’t take any AP classes. Unfortunately, UGA can’t give honors classes any merit since the “honors” title varies in difficulty from school to school.
Top 20% is good. Pre-business may have been an iffy choice… UGA says they don’t base acceptances on major, but I have seen many exemptions to that claim that say otherwise. Regardless, UGA is best known for their business school, so it’s pretty competitive to be accepted under it. That being said, once you are in UGA, 99% of the undergrads applying for business junior year get into Terry.
Good luck! The February wave of admissions is coming soon, keep up with your myStatus!
Thank you very much @camover
Indeed, most of these “chance me” threads are wild guesses. Colleges will be comparing you, as a student, to other fellow students in your school. You have to figure out whether a 3.56 GPA and a 27 ACT score is in the low, middle, or high range at your high school.
So again, good luck on your application!
