Chance me please, I hang around this thread enough that I think I've earned it :)

Ok, well, some of you might remember me since I'm one of those obsessive people who are constantly asking questions. I also lurk a bunch, but anyways, I finally feel like I have enough information to get chanced, so please, help me out.

Academic:
-Average: high 92/low 93 average (I realize this part is hard to judge since everyone has a different scale)
-Ranking: Top 10% (Really competitive Private school)
-Course load: Hardest courses possible
-APs: Euro(4), Lang(4), Bio (expecting a 5), US (expecting 4/5, more likely a 5), Lit (expecting a 4/5, most likely a 4).
-Senior Courses: AP Calc BC, AP Stat, AP Chem, AP Psych, Senior English (already did both AP)
-SAT: M-760 CR-620 W-660
-SAT IIs: Planning on Bio, Math II, and US. Probably high 700s or 800s on at least two of them.

I realize the SAT score is horrible (1480/2040) but I know I can bring it up. I'm taking April ACT and June SAT and then one of those again in the fall next year if I need to. The CR is the lowest I've gotten out of practice tests (range is 610 starting out, and got up to 710). Also on Math I can probably get an 800.

ECs:
-EcoTeam President- 2 years
-GSA President- 1 year
-JV Cross Country- 3 years
-Varsity Swimming- 2 years
-Varsity Track-4 years

Those are all the significant things, I have minor amounts of volunteering.

Other:
-Worked as a lifeguard one summer
-Worked as a camp councilor one summer
-White male
-Live in Mass (I heard it's easier for NE residents?)
-Planning on applying ED

Thanks so much

I’d say you have a very nice chance of getting in, despite your SAT, which is actually right on target for Rice. Good luck!

Mind chancing me? I go to one of the most competitive high schools in the US, so my case is much harder to “chance”. Wanna try anyways? ;)

I think your involvement as EcoTeam president and GSA president could inspire excellent essays. Describe your accomplishments with as many specifics as possible. And spell out what you would like to do to enrich the Rice campus, drawing on your leadership experience. See what clubs are on campus and think of new ones you might like to start. It wouldn’t hurt to arrange a campus interview to show how serious you are … practice tests will boost your reading and writing scores. All my best!

Moreeee… Please

Rice is going to be a reach school for you, but don’t lose hope.

Rice ED definitely has a higher admission rate, then regular.
Hopefully your scores have gotten better and your grades have been keeping up since this was first posted.
You have a pretty strong course load that is filled with APs, that is definitely a good sign.

You can use [Parchment - Transcript Ordering and College Admissions Chances | Parchment Inc.](http://www.parchment.com) to get a rough estimate, but don’t let the website discourage you. I personally had less than 20% chance on getting into Rice according to the parchment. I nearly doubt myself and didn’t apply ED because of it, but I am glad I did.

Got a 33 on my ACT! I’m so happy right now. The website says the average admitted students ACT was between 31 and 34, so I fit right in, I may even be slightly above average.

That’s very good news!

A high ACT alone will not get you into Rice. My son had a 34 and was waitlisted. Find something you are passionate about, work at it and be able to write and speak about it.
