Convert your GPA into a UC GPA for the UC’s. Strong EC’s which will help a little to offset your GPA, but that is still going to be somewhat of an issue at the most selective schools on your list. Congrats on getting accepted to Tulane!

I completely disagree about Vanderbilt. Vandy is DEFINITELY a reach. Your grades are not good enough. Let’s be real here. There are tons of applicants who are worried who have a 4.0…

Your abuse story doesn’t correlate with your “grade drop” You’ve been working your butt off and only improved .3? Although you might have been abused, a .3 increase is nothing. If you have to work your butt off to get a B in an AP class, your chances of surviving Vanderbilt or Cornell are slim.

Sorry for being brutally honest, but it’s what I think is the truth.

I just hope those of you that have clearly never experienced bullying, abuse, or discrimination get some insight into what it is really like. It is not usually like the TV or newspapers portray it. Of course they focus on the extreme cases, that is what makes for a sensational and compelling story. In most people’s reality, they cope as best they can but it isn’t like it has no effect at all. Your lack of sensitivity is stunning. You don’t think a person of Iranian heritage might go through some discrimination in certain situations? I hope college awakens you to the real world a bit more than it appears you currently are.

I never said it wasn’t abuse, but I’m saying the abuse shouldnt excuse the poor grades if when the abuse was over the kid only went up .3

Moreover, if it’s just discrimination (in contrast to severe beatings or something), many people gets teased and bullied. I’m white, catholic girl and I went through a bullying case that went through the police…Don’t see me writing my college essay about that and I still have a 4.0

Only 0.3? They only could go up 0.6. You are being overly critical about a situation you can have no real knowledge. Just discrimination? Thank goodness you were not a black American growing up in the 50’s. You should see if you can find the This American Life episode that aired a few years ago about an Iranian family in New Jersey that was discriminated against, which especially focused on the children that were in school. You have no idea what you are talking about. You should confine your comments to what was actually asked by the OP and things you might really know something about. I can almost guarantee you with an attitude like that being President is not in your future.
