The truth is maybe my academics are not superb, but they are relatively amazing compared to my conditions, not to exaggerate
I am a Kurd, from Kurdistan, Iraq. I am originally from Mahabad, Kurdistan, Iran...
Well I have studied in Persian until grade 2. Then due to political reasons and since we were Kurds, we had to move to Iraqi Kurdistan.
Then I had to continue my education in Kurdish and that was extremely difficult.
I was grade 5 when an international school was set up in my city and I got a scholarship there since my family income was insulfficient.
I have started from zero level English at grade 5 and yet scored 2050 in my first SAT... I will take it again and might score higher.
I have taken all possibilities and have shown Im serious.. I have IGCSEs and AS in math all wth straight As and A*s in the scientific subjects.
I have TOEFL of 108
My extracurricular are very challenging, so I dnt thnk I have a prob wth tht..
I have had an internship in an electrical and CLP company, volunteered to teach two summer school
Have been head of many student bodies every year. Different Clubs( debate, theatre management and etc., Peer Tutoring and Organizing community service projects are in my record. I have worked in a magazine. I have cycled to Syrian, Turkey and Iran border to proclaim peace and have participated in many campaigns and protest agains Turkey's recent bombing.
I wanna make my country proud and study in the best university.
I have always been in the top 3 of my class and hve a gpa of bout 3.8
My recommendations are very positive and supportive
I am the only 1 in Iraq with a SAT in +2000
Probably I am the 1st Kurd to go to these top-notch universities and I can add to their cultural diversity, since Im very attached to my culture and history.
I am also working on translating a book about the hardships of 51 Kurd Prisoners in Saddam Hussein Period.
I am also active physically and have been in the schools soccer team(grade 9,10,11) and the basketball team(10,11 and 12) and in the volleyball team(11 and 12)
Our curriculum is very challenging and widely known sucha that 90-100 means 4.0 GPA.. I have taken the hardest subjects available(including calculus) and my schedule is full.
I have very high expectations of my future and career.
So I wanted to know how high are my chances for IVY league, Stanford or other highly selective universities, such as UC berkeley and Illinois
Im also taking couple of APs next year and hopefully getting +700
Btw, Im planning on electrical and electronic engineering

<p>Your situation would make a compelling essay! I don’t know too much about Illinois or ivy schools but I am familiar with Berkeley. Your academics are a bit low but your definitely a unique character so that will work to your advantage. In my opinion, I think you have a shot at Berkeley if you write great essays explaining how youre not a typical student. If you can raise you academics, that will definitely help.</p>
<p>Thank you, but I am only a junior. I will go to grade 12 after summer and I will be having lots of APs thus increasing my SAT sunject test and weighted GPA. and My SAT is already in berkeley range, although Im takin it again in october</p>
