Thanks for reading everyone.

I also won’t need financial aid. Chances for Amherst too?
If I calculated correctly my UC GPA is 4.91

You seem like a strong applicant, but you should still have some safety schools.

What did you have in mind? I’m all for suggestions.

Do you know why you never get more than a few?
'Cause you’re probably going to get into almost all the universities you’re applying to D:
I’m really envious.

I always get nervous because of my grades freshman year, they are awful compared to other applicants for most of the schools I’m applying to.

PLEASE add Princeton to this list. They are one of the few top schools that don’t look at first year grades at all. I mean you have an incredible shot there.

Really? I didn’t know that they didn’t look at freshman grades. I’ll probably end up applying then, thanks.

Have you already been recruited to any colleges on account of your amazing accomplishments in sports?? They seem pretty incredible to me.

Well, I’m a four star recruit on Tennis Recruiting.

UC GPA is calculated:
-10th and 11th grade only
-OOS state receive an extra GPA point for AP/IB only NOT honors
-Maximum extra GPA points for AP/IB are 8 semesters (4 year-long courses)

Your UC GPA =
21 classes w/A 21 X 4 = 84 GPA points
Bonus GPA points = 8

Total GPA points = 92 / 21 semester classes = 4.38 UC GPA

*** 4.38 is an excellent UC GPA

Thank you for correcting me, I was a little confused with the wording.

VPA is like an art class?

VPA = Visual and Performing Arts. It can inclure art, music, drama, dance. It must be a year-long course and cannot be an online course. Community college courses are usually acceptable. http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/subject_reqs.html

Many OOS students think “Wouldn’t the UCs rather see something like Calculus instead of an Art class???” and choose not to fulfill that requirement. The UC requirements are specific and rigid - if you do not fulfill the A-G requriements, it is unlikely that you would be accepted.

There is an avenue to eligibility called “Eligibilty by Examination” that can waive the A-G requirements [UC Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/exam_eligibility.html) that OOS applicants often think will help them, but it is important to remember that the majority of applicants to the most competetive UCs will far exceed the Eligibilty by Examination minimums AND have all A-G requirements. The main use of Eligibility by Examination is for homeschooled students.

I noticed your PSAT scores. If you are a National Merit Scholar and are accepted, USC will give you a 1/2 tuition scholarship (~$21,000/year). You also would probably be among those considered for the Trustee (full tuition ~$40,000/year) and Presidential Scholarships. Be sure to submit your application *and all supporting materials *before December 1st, 2010 to be considered for those scholarships. Check the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/852880-stats-only-usc-decisions-2010-a.html?highlight=stats+usc+decisions . Most students reporting acceptances the last week of January and first week of February on that thread were invited for Scholarship Interviews.

USC does not require a VPA.

Good luck!

It looks like the California link says VPA (visual, performing arts) is required for California state students. VPA is probably a requirement to graduate in California (it is required here in Maryland too).

Sorry, cross post.

To graduate from high school in California, students must have EITHER a year of VPA or Foriegn language (this is such a strange combination, I cannot imagine how they were placed in the same category). To be CSU/UC eligible, students must have two years of foreign language AND a VPA (as outlined in the A-G requriements). The A-G requirements for CSU/UC eligibilty apply to OOS applicants as well.

By the way - For the less-competetive UCs, the Eligibilty by Examination avenue to admission should work for OOS - particularly UCM, UCR and UCSC. Those schools would very much like to increase their % of full-pay OOS students.

I took a graphics class freshman year. Does that count, or should I still take another art class over the summer?
