Before I do the chancing, I am also wondering about grandparents as legacies. To anyone that reads this, do grandparents count as legacies, specifically at UNC?

Anyway, everything is solid, but to get in to UNC OOS (I’m trying to do the same thing right now), there needs to be some more ECs that stand out. Since it seems like you have a lot of hours, maybe do something that says more than just hours, like starting your own service project. On top of that, I would really study for the SAT II’s and possibly take the SAT. Other than that, the GPA is solid, ACT is solid, courseload is as well. Just make your application stand out more. Right now, I would say it is a bit of a reach, but if you work on the ECs and some other stuff, you should have a good shot.

I agree with PreLives43, except for the emphasis on SAT II’s. Though I was in the in-state pool when I was accepted, one of the admissions officers I spoke to said that SAT II’s carry hardly any weight for any applicant (they know you need them for other schools, especially private colleges, but they don’t even bother recommending them for UNC applicants). Being OOS, you need something to help you stand out, like pursuing a passion of yours that you can continue at Carolina specifically and not another Florida school.

From someone who was accepted, even with an early write, OOS (NY), I do believe you need to “sell yourself” a lot more than the average applicant, specifically, how you would contribute to the chapel hill community. Also, your numbers have to be sky high (might wanna try to get a 32 or 33 on the ACT), and have stellar essays and make your Ec’s look meaningful. You’re already on your way, good luck.
