CHANCE me?...please, I would appreciate it

I would really love to go to Pomona, but lately I have been feeling like I don't stand a chance at getting accepted...for those of you who have gotten in can you see where I stand?

GPA: 3.86
I was doing really poorly grades wise but very recently I have jumped 10 percentage points in 3 of my classes...and I'm really trying very hard.
I also go to a very tough private school where the GPA is deflated by a lot.

APs:
AP Calc AB and BC
English Lang AP
Comp Gov AP
US Hist AP
Music Theory AP

Next year as a senior my APs:
Multivariate Calculus (this is an H class, but it is the class after calc BC...most schools don't offer this class so there is no AP option)
English lit
Physics C
Art History

sat 740 (math), 610 (reading), 640 (writing)
^^I took that w/o studying and I am planning on retaking it

crew team (9, 10)
spanish honors society
national merit (I don't know for sure, but I got 99 percentile)
math club
middle eastern club secretary
band (I play 5 instruments, and music is very important to me)

I'm chicana and I am from out of state and I will be applying ED.

Everyone from my school got rejected from Pomona and these are people that got accepted to Princeton and Harvard...so generally I wouldn't post this, but I want to know if I should waste my Early decision application on a school that I don't stand a chance at (even though I really want to go there).

Thanks for taking the time to read this....and if you just got accepted to Pomona...congrats! It seems like an awesome school.

You’ll need to bring up your SAT scores and take 2 subject tests (not sure if it’s ‘required,’ but you should unless you’re going to get sub 650).

If music is very important to you, you can emphasize it in your essays, etc. Pomona wants to admit interesting people who are going to make a positive impact on the campus and academic community Keep that in mind when writing your essays.

You stand a decent chance, but your scores are well below their averages and that’s what’s hurting you now. good luck :)

Hi capitalp,
It looks as though you’ve pursued quite an ambitious schedule. Have you considered taking the ACT? Some students score much better on this. If you could get all of the subscores above 30, you would be in pretty good shape. Pomona has a strong music program and asks those applicants who intend to continue in music as a contributing member of an ensemble to submit the music supplement along with a recording of their playing, and a music resume. This looks like an area in which you excel. Are you able to visit and schedule an interview? If so, schedule the interview at least a month in advance then also email the band director and line up a meeting. You do not need to be a music major to take lessons and play in the band, but you do need to let them know that you are very interested in continuing with music when you apply. Yes, I think it’s worth a try at admission, especially if you can raise your test scores. Good luck.
