Hey folks, I was wondering what my chances are for applying to the humanities department at UTSG, specifically philosophy, with a 35/45? I asked admissions and they told me that a competitive IB score for the humanities is at least a 32, but I’m a little worried about two of my courses.
I’ve got a 6 for English A literature HL and a 7 for ITGS SL, but I also have two 4s (physics HL and French Ab SL). My other two courses are chemistry HL and math SL (both 6). How much would these two 4s hurt my chances, especially when they’re not directly related to the major I’m pursuing?
On the other hand, if they were to look at my high school transcripts with the letter grades, I received a B for physics and a B+ for French. Would that matter at all?
I’m not from Ontario, by the way. 105D, from an American-style international school in China. I’m hoping for February admissions, but honestly, I don’t know.
@foooooz UTSG looks at the average. So, it doesn’t really matter how the scores add up to 35. It would matter if you were applying to something math related and one of your low scores were math or one of your low scores were English. It won’t matter for a philosophy major that your low scores were physics and French. All they will care about is the English grade and yours is fine. Humanities is not really competitive. If admissions says 32 to be competitive, then you should be fine with 32+.
Do you have any standardized test scores? SATs or ACTs?
@foooooz I’ve heard good things about New College’s dining hall and food. It’s in a good location too. It is close to many of the lecture halls. I was just wondering if you had applied to one of the colleges that has a supplement. Supplements take longer to process, so answers can be slower. Hopefully you hear good news soon!
@bouders Ah, I see! I’m always down for good food. Oddly enough, only my friends who applied to Trinity received offers. I did apply a little later than them, so that’s probably why. Thanks for your help!
