Hi, I'm currently a junior in Ohio and this is what I'm expecting my college apps to look like. I may retake the ACT, but other than that it most likely won't change a lot.

ACT- 32 (31 E, 30 M, 30 R, 36 S)
Unweighted Cumulative GPA-3.99
Weighted - 4.359
Class Rank - 1/309

SAT IIs:
None yet, but I plan on taking Chemistry and Math II

APs:
This Year:
AP Chemistry
AP U.S. Government
Next Year:
AP Biology
AP English Comp
AP U.S. History
AP Calculus AB

Next year's classes:
Honors Physics
AP Biology
AP English Comp
AP U.S. History
AP Calculus AB
Honors Post War American Studies

ECs:
4 Years of Football (9th-Freshman, 10th-12th Varsity, Captain 12th)
4 Years of Varsity Track and Field
NHS officer (11th-12th)
STRIVE (anti-drug program) President (11th-12th)
FCA (Fellowship of the Christian Athlete, 9th-12th)
Student Government Rep (10th)

Research in farm and industrial run-off with Bowling Green State University (This upcoming summer)
Ohio High School Sports Association Sportsmanship Ambassador (11th-12th)
Purdue STEP (Summer Engineering Program)

I'm considering majoring in some type of Engineering (maybe Chemical) at:
Stanford
Columbia (Fu Engineering)
Cornell
UPenn
Northwestern
UC Berkeley
Georgia Tech
University of Michigan
Purdue University

Please give me your thoughts and I'll chance you back! :)

honestly, u will probably get into the college u want except stanford, just because it’s in cali. otherwise, I would think Cornell and UPenn are good bets. michigan is automatic for u, haha. Columbia is hard but you are pretty set all around. can u chance me? my post is “Can I get into Cornell?”

yeah u could probably get into all of them. Even so, cornell is a high reach, but with ur credentials u have a chance. But the others are definetly within ur reach. Good luck, chance me back

“But the others are definetly within ur reach.”

Most of the schools on your list, except for Georgia Tech, UMichigan, Purdue, and MAYBE, just maybe Cornell and Northwestern, have crapshoot admissions. None of them (Stanford, Columbia, etc.) are within ANYONE’s reach, not even to the valedictorian who scored a perfect 2400, took all APs, had all As, and participated in every single activity at his school, and then some.

Stanford - high reach
Columbia (Fu Engineering) - high reach
Cornell - reach
UPenn - reach
Northwestern - low reach
UC Berkeley - match
Georgia Tech *
University of Michigan *
Purdue University *
*I know very little about these schools, but I think you’re in/match

If you get your ACTs up and have decent SAT II scores, I’d say you have a good chance at even the toughest schools. It also depends on your ethnicity. If you’re an URM, you have a fantastic chance. If you’re an ORM, you still have a chance, but it’s slightly slimmer.
ECs look good. It’s mostly up to a fantastic essay and some decent teacher recs. Good luck!

I think all your choices are fair game…the worst part is, the waiting game. But you should have no problem with that. You have great grades and leadership. I’d say pick community service thing and roll with it for the next year, colleges love community commitment (especially if it’s at 1 place for a long time).

Honestly you’re extracirriculars are great and you’re scores are amazing. i feel as though you could get into any of these schools but you never know with Ivy’s they are so picky, sometimes so you can never be for sure… best of luck tho!!!

Your grades and ECs look great. If you’re worried about ECs, just try to further what you already have. More leadership is key, and research is always nice.

However, you really need to get that ACT into the 34-36 range if you want a good shot at the high reaches (especially Stanford and Columbia). A 32 just won’t cut it (unless you’ve got a major hook, like URM status). If you get at least a 34, I’d be quite optimistic about your chances regarding any of the schools you listed.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input! I plan on taking the ACT again in June to try to get my score up to a 34 and I’m taking SAT II Chemistry and Math II in May. If I can score decent on those how will my chances change?
