Hi, I'm currently a junior in Ohio and this is what I'm expecting my college apps to look like. I'm retaking the ACT in June in hopes of at least a 34, but other than that it most likely won't change a lot.

ACT- 32 (31 E, 30 M, 30 R, 36 S)
Unweighted Cumulative GPA-3.99
Weighted - 4.359
Class Rank - 1/309

SAT IIs:
Chemistry
Math II
I took them in May so I don't have the scores yet.

APs:
This Year:
AP Chemistry
AP U.S. Government
Next Year:
AP Biology
AP English Comp
AP U.S. History
AP Calculus AB

Next year's classes:
Honors Physics
AP Biology
AP English Comp
AP U.S. History
AP Calculus AB
Honors Post War American Studies

ECs:
4 Years of Football (9th-Freshman, 10th-12th Varsity, Captain 12th)
4 Years of Varsity Track and Field
NHS (11th-12th)
STRIVE (anti-drug program) President (11th-12th)
Quiz Bowl (11th-12th)
Student Government Rep (10th)
100+ Hours of Community Service (10th-12th)
Research in farm and industrial run-off with Bowling Green State University (This upcoming summer)
Ohio High School Sports Association Sportsmanship Ambassador (11th-12th)
Purdue STEP (Summer Engineering Program)

I'm considering majoring in some type of Engineering (maybe Chemical) at:
Stanford
Columbia (Fu Engineering)
Cornell
Princeton
Northwestern
UC Berkeley
Georgia Tech
University of Michigan
Purdue University

Also, any advice you guys have would be greatly appreciated. I'll chance you back as soon as I can!

Thanks!

Columbia, Princeton, Berkeley, Stanford, Cornell I would say are all 50/50. Northwestern is likely. In at the rest. If at all possible, try to find a leadership opportunity in an engineering field, perhaps you can start a club etc. As with all highly competitive schools, admissions are a toss up at the ones you are looking at, but you seem as likely as anyone else to get into these programs.

Please see my chance threads!

Thanks…I chanced you back on your UMich thread because that’s the school I know the most about. Good luck!

Does anybody have any suggestions for other schools with strong engineering programs in my range?

Anybody have anything?

Northwestern
UC Berkeley
Georgia Tech
University of Michigan
Purdue University

you should get in :D

Cornell

70% chance

Stanford
Columbia
Princeton

30-50% chance.

I’m not sure if this is true, but I’ve heard that although colleges ask you to have 2 subject tests, they are actually looking for more. So maybe you should take some more tests.

Maybe you should have some more work experiences if you are hoping for Stanford,
Columbia, Princeton. A lot of people who get in have 200+ hours of work experience.

Good luck and please chance me :DDDDD

How good is your football team and what is your ethnicity?

I think you’re in at
Northwestern (if you do get the 34 ACT)
UC Berkeley (with 34 ACT)
Georgia Tech
University of Michigan
Purdue University

but these:
Stanford
Columbia (Fu Engineering)
Cornell
Princeton
will be tough (Cornell not as much)

I recommend taking AP Physics instead of Honors, and Calculus BC instead of AB. That is, if those classes are offered.

Thanks for the feedback guys! My football team is average, but we play in one of the best leagues in the state of Ohio if that makes any difference. I’m caucasian and unfortunately my school doesn’t offer AP Physics or AP Calc BC.

I was thinking that I would apply to Stanford EA, but I have heard conflicting opinions on that. Would I have a better chance at Stanford if I apply EA or RD?

Just got my SAT II Scores…
Chemistry-790
Math II-610 (I’m going to retake in October after really studying along with Bio M.)

How will this, if at all, affect my chances?

I would definitely recommend getting that math 2 up, especially considering 10-15% of all test takers get an 800.

I would say that you have impressive stats and ECs… however, with that said, the ives and stanford are generally unpredictable as there are so many outstanding applicants. Good to see that you are retaking your math subject test as well as your ACT… maybe add some more leadership to your resume? good luck! chance back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1152920-chance-me-i-will-chance-you.html

Thanks! Anyone else?

Stanford-Good chance
Columbia-Good chance
Cornell-80% chance

I definitely suggest retaking Math II.

GA Tech- In
Purdue- In
University of Michigan- In
UC Berkeley- In
Northwestern- Match
Stanford- Low Reach
Columbia- Reach
Princeton- Reach

[Chance me please?](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1153951-columbia-duke-john-hopkins-dartmouth.html"]Chance”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1153951-columbia-duke-john-hopkins-dartmouth.html)

I don’t recommend applying for Stanford EA (or whichever one is the binding one). I believe that it’s not much of an advantage and there is an out-of-Cali disadvantage.

Thanks everyone! I have heard that top tier colleges only require two subject tests, but want to see three subject tests? I was wondering if this is true or not because I’m debating whether or not to take an additional subject test with Math II in October. Any feedback would be great!

GA Tech- solid
Purdue- solid
University of Michigan- solid
UC Berkeley- low reach
Northwestern- high match
Stanford- High reach
Columbia- Reach
Princeton- high Reach

Solid ECs, solid scores, solid grades. I would say:

Stanford - reach
Columbia (Fu Engineering) - reach
Cornell - low reach
Princeton - reach
Northwestern - low reach/reach
UC Berkeley - match
Georgia Tech - in
University of Michigan - match
Purdue University - in

If you can get your ACT to a 34, I think you’ll probably get accepted at both Cornell and Northwestern. Unfortunately, Princeton, Stanford, and Columbia are reaches for anyone, although that’s not to say that you don’t have a chance! Knock out your essays, get some awesome teacher recs, and then just see what happens.

in for everything but stanford and princeton will be a reach but not impossible. CHANCE ME BACK!
