HI!
Can you guys chance me for the following schools and tell me which ones I have the best shot at so I can focus most of my energy on those essays first?

Pretty good recs.

Decent essays.

Only possible hook for Columbia is that my dad works at Columbia's Medical Hospital.
First generation college student.

oops forgot SAT2s:

SAT Bio E: 750
SAT Math 2: 800

I would imagine you have an in to all of these schools. Obviously I’d focus on U Penn but I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t get in to the rest. Columbia is a reach for everyone, even with those stats.

As long as you’ve put a lot of time and devotion into the EC’s you mentioned I think you have a good chance. You might see some competition with other students who did ridiculous, ridiculous things though. I don’t think every ivy student had a million incredible EC’s that they were totally devoted to in HS but lets just put it this way: the valedictorian of my high school two years ago trained and raised two seeing-eye dogs, lead the blind through the Amazon rainforest, learned braille, and placed in the top ten in the national speech and debate tournament her senior year.

But I am sure you have done much more than what you simply stated. Good luck!

I think you’re a strong candidate for Ross pre admit., BC, Stern, Cornell if it’s ILR and you’re in state. I would expect you to get into most of these.

I think Georgetown and CMU are less assured but reasonable reaches.

Columbia and Penn will be tough. Being an ORM from a VERY overrepresented city, the competition is incredibly brutal. The 690 CR and no stand out ECs or business ECs for Wharton is really going to hurt you.

NYU (Stern)-high match
Boston College (Carroll)-high match
Georgetown University (McDonough)-mid to high match
Cornell University-low reach
UPenn University (Wharton)-high reach
Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper)-reach

Your SATs seem a bit low for Wharton. As you know, it’s very competitve. Already at my school there are 5 applicants and each with exceptional grades and GPA but nonetheless, your ECs are outstanding

You posted your weighted GPA which could be a bit misleading in that it could be giving us a false idea of your academic achievements. Nonetheless, your course rigor and GPA (at least it appears) are very, very good. Your SAT seems slightly below average for Columbia/Ross/Wharton. Your ECs are solid though; all of them are quality leadership positions that supplement your application well. I wish there was a bit more focus in your application towards your intended major. It would really have helped considerably.

Columbia: Reach, but less so than Wharton RD
UMich: You’ll get into LSA, but Ross is a huge reach as well.
NYU Stern: You will get in.
BC Carroll: You will get in.
Georgetown McDonough: Match, 50/50
Cornell (AEM?): Slight reach only because you didn’t ED
UPenn Wharton: Reach
Carnegie Mellon Tepper: Slight reach

Good luck in the future and stay optimistic! Chance me back please x] http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1251288-cornell-ed-chances.html

Thanks for responding guys!

Columbia is a reach, but ED might help you. Penn is a low reach, but the rest are pretty good matches. Your GPA is very strong, but test scores are a little low for your reaches. Just wondering, did you try taking the ACT?

No I did not take the ACT. I regret not taking it now because a bunch of my friends who didn’t score so hot on the SATs did really well on ACTs and the general consensus is that ACTs are easier. Oh well.

You could still do standby for the testing on the 10th and send the scores in on time for most RD’s. Just a suggestion, though you should be fine !

Columbia- as another ED student who knows a lot of Columbia/Barnard people, admissions are quite unpredictable (note: last year, it seemed there was much less emphasis on SAT scores (because once you have 2100+, you’re probably pretty OK academically) and more on writing and personal stuff- just something to think about). You have as good a shot as anyone applying, but don’t get your hopes up.

University of Michigan (Ross), NYU (Stern), Boston College (Carroll)- high matches

Georgetown University (McDonough), Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper)- low-reaches

UPenn University (Wharton)- mid-reach

You seem like a good applicant to all of these schools & good luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1219836-chance-me-uchicago-columbia-yale-georgetown-more-will-chance-back.html

Yeah my hopes are definitely not up lol, pretty much expect to be rejected since there are so many qualified applicants.

NYU (Stern)-Should be no problem!
Boston College (Carroll)-No problem!
Georgetown University (McDonough)-A very low reach, prob. even high match.
Cornell University-low reach
UPenn University (Wharton)-high reach
Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper)-i put this at a match-low reach
