I have not taken the ACT yet. I plan on taking it the spring of Junior year. The practice tests I have taken say I should score between 28-32 (for the first time). I plan on taking it at least twice, if not three times.
First with just me studying.
Second with a prep course and me studying.
Third (maybe) with just me studying.

Thanks!

I’ll assume you get a 30 on the ACT.

UVA: match
W&M: match
VCU: safety, honor’s depends on ACT.
Brown: reach, try for ~33-34
Dartmouth: reach, try for 33-34

I wouldn’t worry about the state schools, you can get into them if you keep your grades up. Ivies will take a high ACT and good essays. Just rember they deny 90%.

Bump! And thank you teenbodybuilder! :)

gpa is slightly low bu IB courses are more rigorous. EC are solid but where are your test scores. Assuming 30ACT like teenbodybuilder,
i would say
Brown reach
, William and Mary, match
UVA, match
VCU Honors College, ??? (match?)
and Dartmouth reach

need really high ACT or SAT to compensate for lower GPA for Dartmouth and Brown. Other applicant are applying with 4.00 UW, you are applying with ~4.04 W!

chance back!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527194-brandeis-chance-will-apply-ed-chance-back.html</a></p>

I haven’t even started 11th grade yet and IB courses are heavily weighted at my high school. So, I’m not applying this year. I will be next fall though. I completely agree that my GPA is a little low, but it’s one of the highest in my grade because freshman and sophomore year you aren’t able to take IB classes. Also, on the topic of standardized testing, I haven’t taken either the SAT or ACT due to the fact that I’m not quite a junior yet (which is when it’s suggested that you take them). Thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate it. :)

I will chance back.

I think one of the most important things to keep in mind is that no one can give a clear response if whether you have a chance or not, everything within college admissions is so objective. People with 1900’s on the SAT’s are accepted into Harvard while a person who has a 2380 is not. I think that your EC’s are very impressive and you have a lot of them which is very nice but you have to be careful that on the application you don’t spend your time trying to list as many EC’s as possible because then it just seems to be that you are bouncing from club to club and the officers can’t get a real idea of what you are passionate about. Make sure to go more in depth within a extra credit activity that you truly love, the time that you take to focus on it will reflect within your application. Also your G.P.A. isn’t extremely low to the point that you have no chance, remember that you cumulative GPA can be brought within these next few years at school. Your IB’s are good, but I would suggest maybe adding a few more AP’s to your schedule. Basically, you have a chance more than other people at this moment and all I can say is to keep going! When you start applying take a lot of time on your essays so they are outstanding and they can really see who you are as a person, and make sure you ask teachers who truly know your character and you have grown close to during the years. Start growing a relationship with your counselor now, go in every now and then to talk about your future and steps you can take, this will show you’re dedicated and they can get a sense of your character. I can’t tell you how many people have had their chances with ivy’s crushed because of their counselor not knowing them and writing a generic letter of recommendation. It can’t be generic, officers can’t look right through a generic letter so start knowing your counselor. Other than that good luck and keep going!

Thank you so much. :)

That was such AWESOME advice. I’m pretty close to my counselor. I realized being close to her was important when I was in 9th grade haha. I have a decent amount of teachers who I am extremely close to. My 9th grade algebra teacher, my 9th grade spanish 1 teacher, my orchestra teacher, and my 10th grade chemistry teacher. So, I’m hoping for some more close teacher relationships next year (IB teachers).

Once again, thank you SO much for your reply. That really was an amazing post and just wonderful advice.

No problem! I know how important it is to people like us and you deserve a full in-depth answer which a lot of people won’t give the time to give. Good luck on your application process and I’m sure you will do amazing! :)

UVA: match
W&M: match
Brown: reach
Dartmouth: reach

Thanks scderek4!

Bumpp :)

I think brown and dartmouth would be a reach but you should have a pretty good shot everywhere else.

Please Chance Back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1532089-chance-me-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

all matches except for dartmouth and brown which depend on your test scores. i recommend taking SAT IIs and studying to get scores somewhere in the 750+ range for 2-3 subject.

and to improve your chances more aim for a 34+ and do something to differentiate yourself (internship, work, service, independent study, etc)

chance back!

You will get into UVa and William and Mary; but Dartmouth and Brown are kind of a reach. But if you write a really creative essay, you may be able to get into Brown  Good luck. Chance me back!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1532343-chance-me.html</a></p>

Orchestra and a passion for learning seem to be you “things”. I would somehow incorporate them into my essays if I were you. As other have said, Brown and Dartmouth are reaches. The degree of “reach” will depend upon your test scores (including sat II). Also, what is your uw gpa? As scderek said:

UVA: match
W&M: match
Brown: reach
Dartmouth: reach

Chance me? The title is: “Let’s chance each other!!!”

Thanks everyone! You all rock! :)
