CHANCE me please! I'll chance back!

I'm an upcoming senior from NJ and I really need to know my chances for college before September starts!

Upper middle class family, but my sister's in college for the next 3 years, and my parents used the money they saved for my tuition on her so I definitely need money from schools.

I only have one club that I've actually stuck with in school (Forensics). But I didn't apply for a leadership position because I started late in my sophmore year and last year I only had the time to go to three meetings/ 2 competitions. My other ECs were volunteering in the hospital and at chinese school. At chinese school, exec board positions are given to those with seniority, and I had only been there for 2 years, while the majority of the exec board had been on there for 3-4 years. I was a TA there for 1 year, but IDK if that counts as leadership or not. At the hospital, there is no such thing as leadership unless you're an adult and hired to work there. The only other ECs I have are poetry (bc when you semi-final in poetry competitions you get published in an anthology), art, embroidery, and music (violin, piano, and guitar). And I self-taught myself everything except piano the basics in violin. I don't take lessons anymore but I still self teach myself piano and guitar...I think my ECs are weak, and I have a friend who's trying to see if she can get me on the FBLA leadership board bc even though I'm a new member, the advisor knows me pretty well. I also had a lot of meetings with the principal about starting Mock Trial (but never happened due to budget constraints...and that a lot of our potential advisors quit this year...) and a penpal system with another school. The penpal idea had been approved, but the principal said he had to talk to other schools first.
I guess I'm just wondering if my lack of leadership will hurt me more than what my ECs can make up.

If you guys have any suggestions to what other colleges/ business schools to consider, that would be great too! And if you could tell me which schools I have a chance of getting partial scholarships from that would be great!

Just wondering if you guys are dead or not…I’m guessing not.
BUMP.

Boston University MATCH
-Tufts REACH
-NYU Stern HIGH REACH
-Northeastern University MATCH
-Rutgers MATCH
-Georgetown HIGH REACH
-Wharton TOTALLY OUT OF REACH
-American University MATCH

Thanks! Really? AU is a match? Interesting…I would have categorized Rutgers and AU as a safety, but okay.

You should add safer schools to that list

Yeah I guess, but everyone in NJ is accepted to Rutgers, and from my school’s acceptance rates for AU, I was on the above the curve

Your test scores are not bad, though it definitely wouldn’t hurt if you manage to boost your ACT up by a few points. Your GPA is also on the lower end of many applicants to the top schools. Managing to get your poems published shows great accomplishment! However, there is a lack of leadership in your ECs, which could bring your application down.

-Boston University - Match
-Tufts - Reach
-NYU Stern - High Match
-Northeastern University - Match
-Rutgers - Match
-Georgetown - Reach
-Wharton - Reach
-American University - Match

Boston, Stern, and American for sure.

i dont agree with most of these people.

-Boston University- safety
-Tufts- low reach
-NYU Stern- match
-Northeastern University- safety/low match
-Rutgers- safety
-Georgetown- high match
-Wharton- reach
-American University- safety

Looking at the things you can improve at this point, it’d really help to bump up your SAT or ACT. A boost in your leadership would also be super helpful.

-Boston University: Match, you got this
-Tufts: Slight reach, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you got in
-NYU Stern: Reach
-Northeastern University: You got this
-Rutgers: Match
-Georgetown: Reach
-Wharton: Pretty high reach, but that’s what ED’s for, right?
-American University: match

good luck!

livinglively: Tufts “slight reach” Really?
How man unhooked kids sitting on a 650 writing do you think Tufts is taking?
