Chance me please! Ill chance back :)

I applied ED2 to NYU (Gallatin) (its my dream school) and RD to Amherst College, Hamilton College, Pomona College, and University of Toronto. Ive requested financial aid at all of them. Im planning on studying a mixture of literature and creative writing and I want to minor in history.

Personal Background:

  • international student and US citizen attending one of the top schools in my country.
  • English and Spanish are my first languages, but I’m also proficient in French and am planning on learning (self taught) Russian this summer
  • Ive lived in three different countries and have a very multicultural background.
  • Im working as a waitress at a coffee shop
  • Family situation: My parents got divorced when I was 8. I live with my mom, brother, and step dad. My mother is self employed. My dad is now remarried and I have a step-sister with severe autism and a step-mother with cancer, which means that my father has been paying a lot of money for medical bills

Academic Background:

  • GPA: 4.0UW, 5.0W
  • SAT: 1400/1600 (SAT SCORE ONLY SENT TO AMHERST, HAMILTON, AND POMONA)
  • IB: I achieved a bilingual diploma with a total of 39 points (higher levels: 7, 6, 6). IB SCORES SENT TO NYU and UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO
  • My academic situation is very particular since I randomly improved a lot. I went from being an average student (with a school average of about 16, which is still a 4.0) to being a top student in a month (with an average of 18.1, which is also still a 4.0)
  • Was awarded a prize for “excellent work in mathematics”

ECs:

  • sports: hockey (9th grade), swimming (8th, 9th), Ice skating (10th), Skateboarding (8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th)
  • Community service: fundraising for a charity that builds stable homes for people in my country, teaching english to spanish speaking 8th graders, helping young underprivileged children with academic and emotional issues, playing games with underprivileged children to help them develop and have a bigger role in society
  • Theater: member of the backstage team in 11th grade
  • Participated in MUN
  • Established a blog to help other IB students
  • Currently working on writing my first novel. I have also written some short stories which I posted online.
There are more but these were the only ones that I could fit on my Common App

What are my chances?

I think you have a decent shot at NYU, although I’m not too familiar with Gallatin nor your grading system.

I think you have a decent shot at Hamilton and NYU! You have strong IB scores so that will definitely help. Your ECs are decent, and you have some unique ones in there (I’m currently writing a novel too!). I submitted a short story to some schools too, but idk how much weight that will have.

Chance back?
