Chance me please, I'm nervous!

Hey guys, I'm currently a senior graduating this year! I am seeking to major in biomedical engineering or civil engineering, though I'm leaning more towards biomedical. I only applied to in-state schools because I just can't give anymore stress to my parents with out-of-state tuition. Please be honest :)

I applied to the following schools (from the top being my 1st choice and the bottom being my last):

UNC Chapel Hill
NC State
UNC Charlotte
UNC Asheville

In-State and Asian
Academics
GPA: UW-3.9 Weighted-4.6
Rank: 5/89
ACT: 27 (I took it again and am hoping for a 28-30)
SAT: Too ashamed to tell XD Did not send it.

EC's
-Durham Regional Hospital Volunteer (200 hours)
-Adopt-A-Highway Volunteer (Junior and Senior Year)
-Treasurer and Volunteer Coordinator of National Honor Society
-Senior Secretary and Sophomore Class Representative for Student Government
-Yearbook Club Photographer
-Science Club Member (Freshmen and Sophomore Year)
-Math Tutor (Junior and Senior Year)
-UNC Project Uplift (IDK if this will improve my chances for UNC Chapel Hill)

Awards
-Excellence in Alg II Certificate (Basically all the excellence awards are for getting the highest grades in my whole class grade)
-Excellence in Pre-Calc Certificate
-Excellence in Biology Certificate
-Excellence in Eng IV Certificate
-Supertindent Award (twice)
-Mayor's Award (Volunteering over 100 hours over the summer)

Other Requirements (For Chapel Hill)
-Teacher Rec- Teacher loves me! I was her best and favorite student every year
-Counselor Statement- Most likely a good and memorable statement about me. I am one of the most notable students in the school
-Essays: Very Personal! Had it looked over by a english college professor and english high school teacher.

NC State: Safety/High Match (Your ACT composite falls close to the 75th percentile, and your grades+class rank are outstanding)

UNC Charlotte: Safety (You’re above the 75th percentile, and I’m sure your grades are far above their pick)

UNC Asheville: Safety (Again, you’re at their 75th percentile, and you have great grades)

UNC Chapel Hill: Match (You’re in their 50th percentile, and UNC-CH is very largely in state students)

You have great grades to buffer your ACT (IDK your subscores), and if you get the 28-30, then you’ll be golden. You have a good amount of ECs, and as long as you write a good essay, I think you’d be good. What teacher are you getting your rec from? Is it a math/science teacher? Sometimes it’s good to get a rec from an unrelated teacher as well (ie. social studies/languages for you) in order to give the adcoms some more insight. But no biggie!

Good luck!

Chance me back if you can: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1238217-asian-whos-not-good-math.html</a></p>

pretty good shot at everything except chapel hill, which is a high target to low reach. I think it will depend on your essays how well you do there. Chance back : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1233558-my-story-will-my-dream-schools-understand.html</a></p>

Thanks for the chances!

Questionsg: What do you mean by high target to low reach. What can I do to strengthen my chances? What range of the ACT score should I be in to have a solid chance?

High target to low reach means that it’s edging on being a reach school, but only by a little bit. If I’m not mistaken, the scale looks like this:

High Reach<--------Most difficult to get in
Reach
Low Reach
High Match/High Target
Match/Target
Low Match (Not quite a safety, but very close)
Safety<----------Easiest to get in

BTW, UNC - Chapel Hill’s 75th percentile for ACT scores is around a 32 or 33 for most subjects. It’s a Public Ivy, so very prestigious, but you’ll have the in-state advantage. As long as you’re in the 50% range, you’ll stand a chance.

Hmm. Well the only week point on your resume is your standardized test score. Id say you’d need at least a 31 for CH. Id increase my scores in the math and science subsections since your applying for bio-med.

I think you have chances at all of your colleges! Good luck!
