Chance me please? In State HS applicant

Hi! I am currently a senior in high school and graduate in 2017. I’d like to enter the College of Natural Sciences or Liberal Arts to major in Environmental Science.

ACT: 26 (I had a really bad test day so I retook this early June and am expecting to get at least a 30)
31 in English
25 in Math
29 in Reading
20 in Science
23/36 in Writing

New SAT on 1600 Scale: 1320 (Retook this early June aiming for a 1400)
690 Evidence based reading/writing
630 Math

I am part of a health science magnet school, so I have a rigorous curriculum that only allows us to take Pre-AP/AP classes when possible and our electives are classes through which we learn more about careers in the medical field. Through this magnet school I have been OSHA certified, CPR certified, Certified Dental Assistant, and will be Medical Office Assistant Certified during my senior year.

I have about 500-550 community service hours.

I have very few EC’s which i’m scared will hurt my application: National Honor Society
HOSA (Freshman Year)
Gamer’s Club (Junior Year)
and I plan to join SNHS, BETA, Key Club, and Amnesty.

AP Classes: US Government (Passed AP test with 4)
Macroeconomics
Psychology (waiting on test score)
English Language and Composition (waiting on test score)
Environmental Science

Dual Enrollment Courses:
US History 1302 (Waiting on test score)
English 1301
English 1302
College Algebra

I am currently looking for a summer job but no luck so far!

My Class rank: 69/618 (Top 11%)
GPA Weighted: 4.0077 not too sure about my unweight GPA
I am hoping to at least get top 7% with my Fall semester transcript but I will for sure get at least 10%, but what are my chances if I don’t make the top 7% auto admit? I’ve heard that non-auto admit for UT can be pretty hard so I’m worried that my lack of Extra curriculars will hurt me. Thank you for the help!

I also forgot to add that I am a Hispanic Female.

It’s really hard to say. My nephew was in your shoes (non-auto admit), but he had amazing ECs and wasn’t accepted. His appeal was unsuccessful. I don’t mean to sound discouraging, but I want you to be prepared. Would you be willing to go the CAP route? My nephew wasn’t, because he wanted to major in business and was afraid he wouldn’t get accepted to McComb’s when he transferred back to UT.

To be honest not being an auto admit makes it very hard. UT calculates your Academic Index based on class rank after your junior year and component scores from either the ACT or SAT. So even if you get into the top 7% after the fall it won’t help. Search CC for Academic Index and there are posts which explain how it works. The AI formula is different depending on which college you are applying to and which scores you are using, ACT or SAT.

But you never know so I would apply. Hopefully your June ACT scores improved. Submit both ACT and SAT scores as UT uses the one that calculates your highest AI score. Work very hard on your essays. Good luck.
