I am going to apply early action, and I'm really hoping to get in. Does it help that I'm applying as a composition major?

I NEED TO GET IN

I think UNC is a match for you. I think your GPA is ok and your SAT is ok, but nothing stands out to me. Except for your music stuff, I suppose. But … maybe you don’t seem diverse enough?
By the way, I am a freshman music performance major at UNC. If you want me to elaborate or give the DL on the school, I’d be happy to. :)

Your major has no effect on admissions.

The only issue is, the class of 2016 was quite possibly one of the strongest admitted group of students, ever.

[Discover academic opportunities that distinguish Carolina](Our Newest Class - Undergraduate Admissions)

That is the class profile for first year admitted students. Do you see those ridiculous stats? Admittance rate dropped to 27%.

I, however, believe UNC sacrificed diversity for statistics. You can research deeper if you do not believe me. I am a current UNC student (junior transfer, just arrived in August :D) and while I love the school so far, I have read and heard a lot of not so great things about UNC since being here.

Obviously, it is still a great choice and a very selective school. I have NO idea if you have a shot, but that class profile should help in your ability to “rank” yourself (as crappy as that sounds) in comparison to the most recent class. Good luck.
