Chance me please :] - Ivy League Schools

My top four choices are
Harvard University
University of Pennsylvania
University of Chicago
Stanford University

But, if you could, please tell me how I would fare in other Ivy League schools as well. Oh, and don't mind my "expected" scores. I assure you I am confident enough to obtain those scores in the future. Just assume I do get these scores.

For letter of recommendation:
My Chinese teacher graduated from Stanford and I'll have her for 4 years
My history teacher graduated from Harvard Law and I"ll have him for 2 years

So, what are my chances? Feel free to be truthful as you want, any advice that will help improve my chances will be greatly appreciated!

Your ECs seem to be a little weak, especially for those type of schools. I also think it’s kind of crazy for you to expect to get those scores (though I’m not saying you can’t).

If you get those scores, your chances will be okay at Harvard and Stanford. If your recommendations and essays and supplements and whatnot are great, your chances are somewhat good for those schools. University of Pennsylvania and University of Chicago should be pretty easy for you.

I agree about what you said with extracirricular activities. Any suggestions or is it too late? And sorry if I sounded conceited with my expected scores. I have taken MANY practice tests and have reached astounding scores, but you are correct; anything can happen and there is no guarantee. Please assume for the moment I do get those scores. Thank you very much for your input.

Your ECs are genial in the first place… Standard UC fare, and nowhere near “unique” or “in depth” or “with many genuine interests” (you want to be in at least one of the three categories).

Secondly… it doesn’t matter where your teachers graduated from. A good recommender would give personal insights into the student and help show the admissions committee a detailed spectrum of the student’s interests and personality.

and… I usually mock “expected” scores. Especially ones as high (and potentially unrealistic) as yours.

Perfect possible score for the ACT, perfect scores for every subject test… why even ask for chances? You have scores in the 99th percentile and a perfect GPA (assuming your grades don’t slip at all)… what do you really want us to say? OMG!!! YOU’Re Going to HArVard???

I appreciate the criticism however…

When you said my scores are potentially unrealistic, that’s not what I was looking for. Do you think I made these up to impress strangers on the internet?? Why would I do that? I’m trying to be as accurate and realistic as possible because I want to prepare myself. And I already apologized earlier for making myself sound somewhat conceited. No need to be so scathing.

U Penn will still be a reach, definitely not “pretty easy” (im assuming that means a “match” or “in”)

I think Penn will be a match. He’s valedictorian, and if he gets those scores, the only reason to reject would be his lack of ECs. I don’t think Penn is going to be extremely harsh there, but you could be right.

I agree with Lunge. U Penn is hardly ever a match especially for a lack of ECs, and his perfect scores are only projections. Plans rarely work to perfection. Even if he does get those exact scores, the val thing might work to a certain extent but even Vals are turned down routinely. Plus i don’t see any awards. The only thing i could see it being is a low reach.

Actually, many smart people including valedictorians have been rejected.
My friend’s brother got rejected to Princeton, and believe me, he had way more better scores than I did. He got 5’s on 13 AP classes and one 4. Not to mention the overwhelming extracirricular activities compared to me.

If you have nothing constructive to say, don’t bother posting it. I don’t want to hear it. You’re wasting both my time and yours. If you believe that way, that’s too bad. I respect your opinion, but don’t rub it in my face.

As for everyone else, thanks a lot. I really appreciate the advice and evaluations.

Not to sound like I’m being rude or anything, but how can you assume 800s on SAT subject tests?

The first time I took it, I got 800, 750, and 750. I took about 3 more practice tests each, and started getting 800’s. But as I said many times, I can’t guarantee it, it’s just a hopeful likely chance

It’s not being pretentious to state that you think you’re going to get strong SAT Subject test scores or ACT…Those guys are just idiots. Anyways, you really don’t have many EC’s, which is in fact, you’re weakest area but I will say U of Chicago will probably be your only likely.

I agree that your ECs are kinda weak. Isn’t there anything you can do about them now?
But if you do get the predicted scores, you’re going to get in to great schools…Ivys, from all that’s been said on this site, are probably harder without strong ECs…
Chance me back?

Yea… you have very weak EC’s, which is jsut about as important as your SAT score and grades fro the Ivy Leagues. Do you do any competitions or other activities?

Weak EC’s.

your an overrepresented minority, you have good grades, you dont do anything. Personally I have to say no at everywhere but Chicago. Definitely no at Stanford Harvard. Do some ECs

UPenn is far from a match; northface is way off-base.

Chicago’s possible with some great essays. With mediocre essays, it’s unlucky you’ll get in.

I know a lot of people who predicted perfects in the SAT IIs and even though they got 1-2 mistakes, they ended up with 700s because of the ridiculous curve. so I hope you don’t make any careless mistakes

the biggest problem with your application is, there are about at least 10,000 other people applying for the same seat with similar grades as you have. however, some of them have published work, won national awards, and represented the US in the olympics.

I think your grades are there, but there are only X amount of seats for X number of candidates. what you wanna do is improve your chances so work it up and do something or just volunteer. whatever can increase ur chance is good.

on a brighter note, if only grades matter and you do achieve the expected, your chances of getting in are good.
