My dream school is John Hopkins but my GPA doesn't seem that great
Freshman - 3.42
Sophomore - 3.67
Junior - 4 W
SAT - 2300 and national merit semifinalist
Top ranked private school
Varsity Tennis member for 2 yrs
Student Representative in a club
piano, saxophone, and singing for 8 yrs
so do colleges see ECs and give me any leeway?

<p>ALSO: My school doesn't give class rank, but I still think I would be in the top 10 if not 25%. BTW can I write that on my essay?</p>

<p>The upward trend will help you. And your 3.7 UW GPA really isn’t THAT bad. Just on the low end (it won’t help you). Your ECs will NOT give you leeway, as they really aren’t that impressive. How much time did you devote to piano, saxophone, and singing? Are you good enough to do them in college? Your chances are okay for JHU. Probably a low/mid reach. If you can emphasize the importance of your ECs and your commitment to them on your app, you will have a good shot at getting in.

  • saxophone - got two awards (perfect rating) in solo and ensemble contest both sophomore and junior yrs - also first chair in band
  • singing - Classical Hindustani - will perform final graduating performance in-front of thousands of people in 2012
    - one of my group performances showed up in a local newspaper
  • piano - got award (perfect rating) in solo contest as a junior
  • worked job in hospital - 240 hours both junior and sophomore years
  • tennis - got 3rd place in a local competition</p>

<p>Will my ECs give me leeway?</p>
