If anyone could chance me I would really really appreciate it!
How competitive am I as an applicant for Johns Hopkins biomedical engineering? – both for the school as a whole and specifically their biomedical engineering program
GPA: 4.0 (unweighted)
No class rank (though I would be 1 of 130 because I’m only kid with 4.0 and take hardest classes)
ACT: 35 (English 33, Math 36, Reading 36, Science 36, Writing 36)
SAT II/Subject Tests: 800 Math2 800 physics
AP: 5s on AP world history, us history, physics 1, biology, calc ab, English lit, English Lang, Spanish lang, 5 self studied AP Macroecon
Fairly rigorous senior year courses (AP Chem, AP Physics C, AP calc BC, AP us government, English, choir, speech)
White male, no legacy (one parent went to state university, other did not go to college)
No special awards really… – I have cum laude, National AP Scholar, and probably National Merit Semifinalist (none are that unique), plus some random awards from Spanish contests and science Olympiad contest
Fairly strong teacher recommendations – one better than other but both teachers know how to write good recs
Haven’t written essays yet, but I think I can write well enough that if anything they will be neutral or positive to my app
Extracurriculars are decent: drama/theater/choir, academic clubs (quiz bowl, math team, science bowl, science Olympiad, model Un – captain of 2), elected to student government for 2 years, JV Soccer and Swimming, 2 summer internships and limited work experience, some other stuff/clubs
I worry because I don’t have much/any research, volunteer work, or that much of a “hook.”
Did I forget anything?
Thank you!!
