Chance me please- Mostly Virginia schools + a few others

Hi, I am a senior in high school from Northern Virginia looking to major in Finance and possibly minor in Computer Science (not completely sure about CS minor). Here are my stats:

GPA: 4.42 (weighted)
SAT Superscored: 1480 (Math: 750, English: 730) (Taking it one more time- might improve)
Rank: 34/507 (top 10% of my class)
Took Math 2 and Chemistry subject tests- scores were not good as I studied the night before for both of them and none of the schools I’m applying to require them so I’m not going to send them

AP Classes and scores:
Sophomore year- AP World History (4)
Junior year- AP Calculus AB (5), AP English Language & Composition (4), AP Psychology (5), AP Chemistry- did not take exam because this course is a dual enrollment class at my school as well- received college credit from Richard Bland Community College (part of William & Mary)
Senior year- AP Biology, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics

Dual Enrollment Classes:
Junior Year- AP/DE Chemistry & DE Physics
Senior Year- AP/DE Biology & DE English 12

Extracurriculars:
Had a part time job (2 days a week) during sophomore and junior year
Co-project manager of Community Service in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) junior and senior year; member since sophomore year
Co-President of Pre-Professional Health Honor Society (PHS) senior year; member since freshman year
Vice President of Psychology Club senior year; member starting this year only, my friend asked me if I wanted to be an officer
Intern for a local political campaign starting summer before senior year
Member of NHS since junior year
Member of Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society) since sophomore year
Member of National English Honor Society (NEHS) since junior year
I have been playing piano since second grade
I have a lot of community service hours from these honor societies as well as from my job which I used to volunteer instead of work for (it’s a tutoring center)

I am getting recs from my AP Calc AB teacher and AP Lang teacher (both from junior year).

These are the schools I’m applying to:

Safeties:
Virginia Tech
JMU
George Mason
Rutgers

Targets:
UVA
William & Mary
University of Richmond
George Washington
University of Michigan

Reaches:
UPenn
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell

Please chance me! I really want to go to either UVA, William & Mary, or Virginia Tech, but I really love the other schools I’m applying to. Thank you so much!

youll probably get into all of them most likely, but maybe a 50 percent chance at cornell cmu and upenn

positive patracia is my friend and she is biased- i think i have a much lower chance for my reaches

Also I forgot to mention I am Indian and a girl

Move U of Mich to a reach school. OOS acceptance rate is very low. UVA might also be considered a low reach/high match coming from NoVA. Also have you run the NPC for the private and OOS public schools? Can you afford to go to them with little financial aid if accepted? Also what is your unweighted GPA?

I wouldn’t put UVA, William & Mary, or UM in targets. I would definitely put UVA and W&M for low reaches and UM as a reach for sure.

You have good stats, but we’ve all seen how that goes (especially with UVA).
My suggestions would be to really work on strong essays and show interest (visits, talk with reps when they visit). Good luck!

As a rule of thumb you probably need to be targeting toward 75th percentile for a target, which looks overall like 1500 SAT and 4.49 for UVA and 1510 4.46 for William & Mary. The in-state SATs at 75th could be a bit lower, but GPAs are probably about that level. So I’d say they are a low reach now and see if you can improve SAT a bit. Also, look at your application strategy (both now have ED), essays, opportunities to demonstrate interest (may be particularly useful with W&M).

You would have to apply to business school at both UVA and W&M, where at others there may be direct admit options. Direct admit at a school like Michigan is extremely competitive. Michigan OOS will be a reach for non-business admission

Virginia Tech admission, other than engineering, will be easier than UVA and W&M and may also be a good option. JMU and GMU are also solid.

You might want to look at adding some other privates in addition to Richmond like Wake and Washington and Lee (and others that fit).

After reevaluating, I have taken UMich off my list. I realized it’s a huge reach and I don’t know if I could move that far away/ afford to. Thank you very much for your response though!

Thank you! Is there anything else in particular that you would say would increase my chances for UVA and William & Mary? I brought my SAT score up to a 1510.

I brought my SAT score up to a 1510. Do you think this will increase my chances for UVA & William and Mary? Thank you for your response!
