Chance Me Please...Need Some Help:)

Hey,
I have just completed my 11th grade and i am really depressed about my marks and stuff.(Since I actully Worked really hard) So I really want some motivation. Below is my profile.

Before anything else my parents can pay around 10 to 12 lakhs a year, and will definitely need some scholarship. So please tell me if i will a competitive candidate for scholarships.

Academics-

I know that my 11th garde marks look really bad but those are great scores at my school. They want to prepare you for IIT and board exams hence set very hard papers.(anything above 50% is considered an 'A' grade performance.

EC's

So basically I am interested in engineering or computer science programs, and Here is a list of colleges i am probably going to apply to (It is a rough list and is subject to change)

1)Stanford
2)Upenn
3)Ohio State
4)Univ Of Wisconsin Madison
5)Univ. of Southern California
6)NC State Univ.
7) Univ Of California-Davis
8)Univ Of California-Irivine
9)Michigan State Univ.
10)Arizona State Univ.
11)Univ of Colorado-Boulder
12)Univ of Tennessee
13)Iowa State Univ
14)SUNY-Buffalo
15)UIC
16)Texas A&M

So help me out here and rate my chances in those universities with some scholarship, and also suggest some changes to my university list.

Also Tell me if My 9th and 11th grade marks have a bad impact on my application since they look low.

Thanks a TON....!

BUMPPPP!!!

Oh and add drexel, gtech to that list^^!

That is too many colleges to apply.

If portrayed with passion, I think your ECs are good. Not incredibly unique, but good nonetheless. 9 and 11 is hard, and that is understandable. Your SAT I is good and your SAT II is above average. However, the bottleneck in your application is the fact that you need aid. Here’s how it looks to me

1)Stanford - near 0% chance (I’m not aware of any International getting aid here, very rare)
2)Upenn - high reach
3)Ohio State - accepted
4)Univ Of Wisconsin Madison - accepted
5)Univ. of Southern California - accepted
6)NC State Univ. - accepted
7) Univ Of California-Davis - accepted
8)Univ Of California-Irivine - accepted
9)Michigan State Univ. - accepted
10)Arizona State Univ. - accepted
11)Univ of Colorado-Boulder - accepted
12)Univ of Tennessee - accepted
13)Iowa State Univ - accepted
14)SUNY-Buffalo - accepted
15)UIC - accepted
16)Texas A&M - accepted
17) Drexel - accepted

I really don’t understand your college list. You have Stanford and Penn followed by a bunch of places that are substandard at worst and good at best. Most of them don’t give aid though, as far as I know. I’m not sure any college other than Penn on this list gives a decent or any amount of financial aid to internationals.

Alright, so your stats seem alright but as mentioned above Penn and Stanford are almost impossible. I Suggest adding UIUC, georgia tech, purdue, UC berkeley (reach), CMU (reach-ish), University of michigan-ann arbor (match) ,UT austin (match) and washington university in St. louis(reach but great financial aid). You should also probably cut university of Tennessee, university of colorado and NC state from your list as they are pretty substandard.

Make sure you essay are really great and also you can explain your grade 9 and 11 grade in the additional info section of the common app. Good luck! And if i may ask, which soccer club do you play for?

@Sigtus-- I am not planning to apply to all of them thats a fairly rough list

@TeslaBoy-I do understand that the college list is fairly average but i do not know many colleges except the ivies which have great aid for internationals and plus i do not want to apply to only the top colleges…so enlighten me with knowledge aboutcolleges that you know give great aid to internationals

@Happyasever --Most of the colleges u listed have little to no financial aid/ scholarships for internationals… and since u asked i used to play for the state team and HAL football club under 15 but kinda…stopped playing last year.

^ Dhruuv - You have a lot of State Universities and they ARE VERY STINGY.
You should probably try applying to LACs? They have great fin aid and SOME have good engineering programs.
Hope this helps :)

Alright. If you want great financial aid apply to LAC’s like Harvey Mudd college and Bucknell. Also, The University of rochester,Perdue and UIUC offer great scholarships for internationals. You should also consider applying to Washington University in St louis and trinity college both of which have amazing aid for internationals.
And that’s cool!, I live like 20 mins away from HAL.

UIUC does not offer any aid to internationals>!

There’s a difference between merit based scholarships and need based aid. UICU does offer multiple merit based scholarships. I myself received a 20,000 dollar a year merit based scholarship at UIUC. I’m my earlier post, “scholarships” refer to merit based awards.

Can we get any list for which colleges give aid?

^ Google ?

Frankly your grades are low for Ivy standards - not just your 11th, but also your 9th & 10th. However you have good ECs. Though it may hurt you that you don’t have any EC/achievement in the field of science & engineering - which is what you want to do? You’ll have to explain this better through your essays.

And I can’t understand the logic behind that college list! Seems like you just put up the names of all the colleges you’ve heard about.

Use this website to list those that award aid to International students.
[Schools Awarding International Financial Aid](Schools Awarding International Financial Aid)

I’d say you’ll get into colleges 3 to 16. So you should look at cutting these down to 3-4 universities which you really want to attend & which give aid.

Apply to 1 or 2 Ivies, though with aid - your chances are pretty slim, but if you have the time/money - then no harm in applying.

Also add few more top schools to your list like WUSTL, CWRU?, Boston Univ, etc…

All the best!!

im not sure if USC and OSU give finaid. bcoz i applied this year and was asked to fill out a financial cert which said that they dont give finaid to intls.

also u say ur parents can pay 10-12 lacs which is 100,000-120,000. that is more than the tuition fee (around 50,000) so i dont get why ur applying for finaid.

@ JRswish: 10-12 lakhs is roughly around 20,000$ while the total cost of attendance at a private university is 55,000$ to 60,000$ and 30,000$ to even 50,000$ at most public universities. So he does indeed to FA or a merit based scholarship.

oh i thought he was talking in terms of dollars. nevermind the last 2 lines of my previous post then

Even if you were talking in terms of dollars, 10-12 lakhs is 1,000,000 - 1,200,000. You missed a zero!! Haha!! And that is an insane amount of money to spend on college education!! LOL!! :p

10 lakh = 1 million?? pretty cool. yeah i cant imagine what any1 needs for 1million dollars in college.
